My coworker just got his third COVID infection, the last two were post vaccination. This guy needs to buy a lotto ticket. We currently have 25% of the people at my site in my department out, plus other departments and security as well. They are considering switching to a modified schedule, last time we did this it went from 20 people on campus during the day to 4. If they do this I will be behind all year. Yay!!!

This OmnicronCold is really getting around!

I notified my manager yesterday on my last day of vacation from work and informed him about feeling crappy on New Year’s Day and having congestion, sore throat, cough, etc but feeling better already.

He told me to just work remote the rest of the week, I get online and find out that everyone else on my team is also doing the same because they all have the same shit or were around people with it, LOL

I think this variant actually may be the beginning of the end of this pandemic, thank God. If everyone can just get it, have a cold for a few days and be over it, then this goddam virus runs out of hosts to infect, right?

Or at least that’s how viruses worked in the past before the fucking Chinese started playing around with them. Mad

You should know better than that by now. Until we get rid of the current leadership, we're never getting out of this.

Common "ailment" among people who want to work remote but companies want you in, however unless you maybe possibly have the COVID.

Companies are not requiring employees to show proof of a positive test, so just call in with the symptoms and poof instant ok to work remote.

Easy way to get assigned to work from home duty.

Things that need to happen that won't.

1) proof of positive covid test to get remote work authorization, and,
2) reporting of covid testing by individual, yep, log the name, date, time, place.

My bet is that a significant amount of the "increased" number of tests are people going in for multiple tests at multiple locations, either to get the positive checked over, daily, or, until they can get a positive test to get to work remote.

Several companies don't charge your PTO or Sick days off for the positive result, you just go home and work. It's easy to get a mini vacation.

I'm no longer certain that is the case. More and more people are seeing that we shut the world down for a cold and are over it, I'm even seeing people in my own family who appear to be done with all this bullshit and they were not like that 6, 12 months ago.

Nice of you to basically tell me my team is a bunch of dishonest scumbags...

And how am I getting a test when there are NO TESTS TO BE FOUND AROUND HERE and all the urgent cares and other places are jammed up with panicky sheep with sniffles?

This is a long but good read: https://bprice.substack.com/p/lab-leak-20

cliff notes; omicron appears to be a separate branch, possible second lab leak. Or, could be an (intentional) antidote of sorts to Delta (i.e. conferring natural immunity).

quote:
First, look at the phylogenetic tree (it’s basically a family tree for viruses). This image comes from an article in Science, which in turn got it from nextstrain.org:

The x-axis shows time, with earlier times on the left of the graph, later times on the right. The y-axis shows how mutated the viruses are, compared to the original SARS-CoV-2 and to each other. Notice how over time, with natural mutations occurring, the original SARS-CoV-2 has gradually gotten more diverse. You can see delta variants there (in green) nested in what looks like a naturally expanding variety of viruses over time. That’s the main “wedge shape” you see, and it’s what you’d expect to see.

But then look at omicron. It’s the red cluster in the upper right. It’s very, very different. It’s way off the “natural” family tree of descendants of the original SARS-CoV-2. What’s more, if you trace its “stalk” back (i.e., if you look where it branched off from the “family tree”), you see it sprang from an “ancestor” from sometime in Spring 2020.

So, how did that happen? How did it suddenly appear in November 2021, when its “forefather” was a version of the virus that was common in mid-2020?

And where is all the natural variation in between? Why is it not like the other variants, nested in that natural-looking spreading set of gradually mutating descendants?

One parsimonious hypothesis is that some engineering has been done to it, in order to make its evolution look so unnatural. I have not heard another parsimonious hypothesis.

Israeli study shows 4th vaccine boosts antibodies fivefold as infections soar

https://www.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-691491

Israel tops 10,000 new cases as over 100,000 individuals receive fourth shot or book appointment.

The fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine boosts antibodies fivefold a week after the shot is administered, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said Tuesday, citing preliminary findings of an Israeli study.

Dr. Gili Regev-Yochay, who is leading the study at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, told Bennett the fivefold increase in antibodies indicates that the vaccine works and provides protection against serious complications. In addition, the new booster appears to have a safety profile similar to the previous ones, she said.

“The State of Israel not only protects its own people and its own citizens, the State of Israel is truly at the forefront of research on the issue of COVID-19, ‘For out of Zion shall the Torah come forth,’” Bennett said on a visit to Sheba Medical Center on Tuesday. “For out of Sheba shall the Torah come forth. From here, we are studying the data and giving it to the whole world and through your dedicated work saving lives, no less.”

The level of breakthrough infections was one of the reasons the Health Ministry on Sunday approved an additional shot for the over-60 population.

More than 100,000 people either received or booked getting the new vaccine on Monday, which marked the first day of the campaign.

“We discussed a lot about the fourth vaccine,” he said. “It took a few days to approve it, but now that we did, we are sure that it will help us as individuals to deal with the disease and help us as a country to deal with the pandemic.”

Meanwhile, morbidity in Israel has been soaring.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Our HR guy had symptomatic Covid last December, (2020) had both Pfizer Covid shots in May and got Covid again last week. Another lady I work with had Covid, both Moderna, had a booster, and came down with it again. Both had very mild symptoms. It's all witchcraft.

New variant found in France

The new variant — B.1.640.2 — which has been detected in 12 patients near Marseille, contains 46 mutations, making it more resistant to vaccines and infectious

Even as the world battles the uptick in COVID-19 cases owing to the Omicron variant, scientists in France have found another variant.

The discovery of the variant, dubbed B.1.640.2, was announced in a paper posted on medRxiv.

Called IHU, as of now, the strain was discovered by academics based at the IHU Mediterranee Infection on 10 December.

Here’s what we know so far of this new COVID-19 variant:

• Researchers say that it contains 46 mutations — even more than Omicron — which makes it more resistant to vaccines and infectious.
• Some 12 cases have been spotted so far near Marseille, with the first linked to travel to the African country Cameroon.
• Tests show the strain carries the N501Y mutation — first seen on the Alpha variant — that experts believe can make it more transmissible
• According to the scientists, it also carries the E484K mutation, which could mean that the IHU variant will be more resistant to vaccines.
• It is yet to be spotted in other countries or labelled a variant under investigation by the World Health Organization.

Omicron dominant variant

Currently, Omicron is the dominant coronavirus variant in France, joining other European countries like the United Kingdom and Portugal with surging case numbers over the past few days.

France's public health agency had recently said that "62.4 percent of tests showed a profile compatible with the Omicron variant".

The Omicron variant of coronavirus has stoked average daily confirmed cases to more than 160,000 per day over the past week, with peaks above 200,000.

“The tidal wave has indeed arrived, it’s enormous, but we will not give in to panic,” Health Minister Olivier Veran was quoted as telling Parliament.

In an attempt to battle this surge, French MPs have proposed legislation that would require most people to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to enter public spaces such as bars, restaurants and long-distance public transport.

It is expected to come into force on 15 January after passing through the upper house Senate.

News agency AFP reported that the bill’s headline measure is aimed at getting France’s remaining five million unvaccinated people over 12 to accept a shot.

At present a health pass is required to access numerous everyday venues including bars, cafés, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, gyms, leisure centres and long distance train travel – but a recent negative test is accepted for the health pass.

The bill aims to replace the health pass with a vaccine pass – which would only allow people who are fully vaccinated to gain access to those venues.
