So my wife and I were at one of our favorite restaurants last night, the first day they could be open for sit down service since March. The owner, a friend of ours, said that even with half the tables open and about half of those empty, she still took in about 7 times the amount of money as she did on her best days serving take out only. So an improvement, but Spring is when the smaller local businesses here make the money to hold them over until Fall when the snowbirds return.
Just a data point on the ongoing economic damage.

^^^ But sit down service will typically increase the overhead costs.
I don't know how some of these restaurants are doing it, but those that are have to be using savings, lines of credit, rent deals with their landlords, and a number of other possibilities to make the numbers work out.
And it's not just restaurants. Plenty of other businesses in the same boat. And although some businesses are well suited for bumps in the road, they weren't prepared for anything like this.
