If there looks to be a set of wires going to a solenoid on the compressor in addition to the wires going to the clutch then it might.
If the pump is destroked it wouldn't be pumping any refrigerant.
This would probably still leave you replacing the pump unless it was a wiring or control issue.
According to the wiring diagram there are three wires going to the compressor, named the magnetic clutch and lock sensor. One is the power wire from the relay that powers the clutch, and it appears the clutch grounds through the compressor case. The other two are for the lock sensor, one wire goes to ground while the other to the ECU. It appears that when the clutch is engaged, this closes the contacts in the lock sensor grounding the circuit letting the ECU know that the clutch has mechanically engaged.
