I think the difference between this accident and others that have survived is his parachute partially opened slowing him down. He didn't hit the ground at terminal velocity.

I WW2, a guy's parachute failed from a moderate altitude. He hit a snowbank, and bounced up against a tree. He broke one leg when he hit the tree. I read about this long before the inet, so perhaps it is true.

He is lucky to be alive, he would definitely break a few things but if spinal cord and brain is still working then he stands a chance for a normal life.
