tatortoddTexas Voters - Double Check your ballot if you vote straight ticket Republican
I've been seeing complaints on social media and this is the first legitimate news source I've seen. Regardless of what they say, double check your ballot if you vote straight ticket Republican to insure you vote for Senator Cruz as intended instead of Beto.
I'm voting this weekend so I plan to double check.

Election officials blame problems with electronic voting machines on "operator error"HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --
Tonight, there is increasing anxiety over whether the popular eSlate voting machines prevalent across Texas counties are reliable.
As first reported by Eyewitness News on Thursday, numerous voters have been complaining that when voting straight ticket, the machines would switch the senate choice to the opposing party.
It almost happened to Emily James, a freelance editor who lives in the Woodlands and votes in Montgomery County.
"I hit the next button," she recounts after hitting a straight ticket option. "But instead of going to the next screen, it was on the senatorial box, and it had deselected the candidate, and I had to re-select it."
James says she was able to correct her ballot in time, but worries about other voters.
Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart, and the secretary of state insist, it's user error.
"The machines do not have glitches," said Stanart, who insists the problems are caused by voters pressing two buttons at once. "They're doing exactly what you tell them to do."
But James points out, even if the machines don't have glitches, the simple fact that it is so prone to human error, means it's time for a different voting system.
"If I see a repeat pattern of the same errors happening over and over, I say that's not the consumer's fault, that's your fault, you need to fix that."
Hart Intercivic, the maker of the eSlate machines, says the technology is very reliable. It debuted in 2002, and is currently in use in dozens of Texas counties.
However, the technology is considered old, and Hart Intercivic no longer makes the eSlate machines.
For the past few years, the company has been pushing its clients to switch to Verity, a new type of voting system that features a paper ballot with digital scanning technology.
Harris County though, is in no hurry to adopt Verity. It would cost the county tens of millions of dollars.
At this point, the one piece of advice all sides agree on is that
as a voter, you need to check, and double check your selections. The machines can be sensitive. Whether or not you believe there is a glitch or human error, make sure your selections are on the screen before you push the Cast Ballot button.

MikeinNCWhen I lived in NC, and they still had straight party voting, I clicked Republican, and went thru it to review it and the machine had defaulted to Democrat....
I voted straight line again and, again it changed it to DEM....after calling over a lady with a funny colored electronic block to put int he machine, she told me it was OK.
Most assuredly, it was not. I made her stand there and witness the issue and them make my machine work properly.
She told me the machine was defaulted alphabetically-I told her that that was bullshit. it should default to black or white but not reset votes....
Personally, whatever happened to the scantron bubble thingy like in school???

tsmccullRather than trusting the machine software to get a straight Republican ticket right, I always go thru each selection one by one and select each one individually. Have always done it this way even though it takes longer because it’s the only way to be sure.

Yes, same here. I never vote "straight party." I always check each box individually. Especially when I voted on an electronic voting machine.

I live in Tarrant County. I will vote the long way, no straight party shortcut for me.

StorminNorminAlthough I vote straight party, I never pick the straight party option as I don’t trust it. I go person by person and only vote for the party I want. Then of course I review the summary at the end to ensure the people I picked are getting my vote.

jljonesWhy is it that the machines always seem to "default" to voting democrat?

GustoferWe still color in the little circles on the mark sense forms around here.
I don't trust computerized voting one little bit. I know teenagers who could hack into the frickin' Defense Department if they wanted to, and I'm supposed to believe that all of these voting machines are secure?

12131Whether you vote straight party or go through one by one, the final step is always the same, check your selections before you "cast ballot".

Il CattivoAnd here the Travis County Republicans have been sending out an email telling folks to vote the straight Republican ticket. Here's hoping Cruz wins big enough that we don't get stuck in some hanging chad hell.

This... voting straight ticket is no different than selecting all republican one by one. It's the final review screens that you have to pay attention to and make sure nothing has change before hitting "register vote" button.
I've got to say though, these voting machines are archaic and I can see why some people get screwed up.
Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves.

If it makes you feel better go ahead.
If you think the machine has been "hacked" why wouldn't it be hacked no matter how you vote? Seriously, the code to "hack" a machine wouldn't give a shit about how you voted.

Il CattivoTo hack the "straight ticket" option is to hack one item. Those who tend to vote "straight ticket" may also be less likely to review the ballot before pressing the button to cast it. If you wanna get away with something, less is more.

OzarkwoodsSounds like a software programming issue, most likely on purpose since thorough testing should have taken place before voting started.

Democrat is alphabetically ahead of Republican?
I haven't voted yet, but I think Dallas County is still using the "fill in the blobs" method on a paper ballot. I do approve of that system.

CoinRollerI also live in Tarrant County, and voted straight GOP ticket. Then went through and checked each candidate for confirmation (several pages). While I do not detect any vote change, the “selection wheel” used on the voting machine is very touchy, and it would be easy to make an inadvertent error and not realize it. We need a better system than currently used in elections.

Rick LeeI filled out my mail-in ballot yesterday. It's a ton of work. School board, ballot initiatives, House, Senate, state, local races, state commissions and then retain or reject about 40 judges. It takes me hours to look up all those people I've never heard of and read about them, especially the ones that aren't partisan. There were a few judges and one ballot initiative I could not find anything about online. Very frustrating. I imagine most people just vote in the big races they've heard about and leave the rest blank. Even if I walked into a polling place with a list of how I wanted to vote, it would take a while to get through it all.

MRBTXVoted straight ticket, then rolled thru all the choices, they were marked correctly- all R's. Seemed to work fine.
