Scooter123The Army Says Its New Assault Rifle Will Pack a Punch Like a Tank's Main Gun
With the kind of bullet velocities they are hoping for they will end up with an SAW that will need a barrel change after about 1 minute of sustained fire. Somehow I don't that will work out very well.

ZSMICHAELI hope that one awesomely powerful round is enough, It’s gonna be awhile before the soldier heals from the recoil injuries to fire another.

Uhhh they are working on that. Just a small problem.LOL

Chuck Perryquote:
“The chamber pressure for the standard assault rifle is around 45 KSI [kilopound per square inch], but we’re looking for between 60 and 80 KSI … the chamber pressure when an M1 Abrams tank fires is on that order,” Gordon told Task & Purpose. “We’re looking to reach out around 600 meters and have lethal effects even if the target is protected by body armor.”
WTF is KSI?

grecoSo somehow, this device negates Newton’s third law? I wouldn’t want to be behind it. Performance always comes with compromise

Although I'd never seen that acronym before, the statement actually defines it: "kilopound per square inch", or 1000psi. So 45KSI is the same as 45,000psi.
I think the .45Casull cartridge develops around 60,000psi and it's pretty brutal in a handgun. Depending on the weight of the rifle bullet, it might be quite unpleasant in a rifle, too.

Twist18So the new assault rifle must be chambered in 10mm, right?

RHINOWSOAnother "new" assault rifle program?
A retiring General or three must need a job with one of the big firearms companies.

I had to look through a few conversion websites to find one that did KSI.
At first I figured to go ridiculously big - and it looks like a 30-06 "max pressure" according to Wikipedia has a KSI of 58, so still below their 60 to 80 goal.
The 338LM has an MPa of 420 on Wikipedia, so that converts to 60.9 KSI. The 50bmg is less than that, at 417 MPa.
So big isn't necessarily higher pressured.
I then looked at the 6.5CM, and it is listed at 435MPa = 63.09 KSI.
So really, they're going to increase chamber pressure and deal with a lot more throat erosion and muzzle erosion and go through barrels just in a few training sessions and find out it's too expensive and they'll scrap the whole fucking project as usual.
