Just had cataract surgery on left eye. Right eye to follow in 2 weeks. I won’t need glasses to drive as corrective lens are implanted that replace the old foggy natural ones.

So how is this viewed by state DL law? My Drivers license requires corrective lenses. My lenses will be implanted. How does a LEO verify that if so inclined?

I'd guess on your word? How do they verify that you're wearing contact lenses instead of glasses?

If you are that worried get a note from your eye doc to carry in your wallet.

I figure it’s pretty remote that they won’t take your word. I’m just curious.

Contact lenses can be seen with a flashlight.

Don’t think these implants can be easily detected.

Ask the issuing authority. Should get an answer with a simple phone call.

After my cataract surgery and IOL implant, I re-took the vision test at the DMV. My DL was reissued and the corrective lens requirement was removed.

Patty (or maybe it was Selma) told me that they regard this as similar to Lasik; eyeglasses or contact lenses are not required.

After completion they should give you a IOL card. It shows the date of replacement. I’m not sure if it’s to fulfill the driver license requirement, but I think it would work as verification.

You will get paperwork from you eye doc that you take to the dmv and they will update and issue you a new license.

This is what I did when I had Lasik surgery.

Yep, same with me. My eye doc said if for some odd reason I failed the test they would intervein with the DMV. No need, passed easily. I suppose some states have different requirements but I see now much better then I have with glasses or contacts.

You'll only get "caught" if you get stopped for some other thing.

Plus corrective lens also cover contact lenses. It's not like they'll ask people to take out their contact lenses to prove they're wearing corrective lenses. I suppose if you start squinting while talking to the police officer, that will flag his attention.

I just waited until my DL was up for renewal and then mentioned to the clerk I don't need glasses any more. She had me read the chart without glasses and the restriction was removed from my license.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." they don't give a shit if you can pass the eye test.

i had both done 3 years ago, wore glasses.

the day after the 2nd eye was done, back to dmv for eye test to remove the restriction.

only fee was for a replacement license without the restriction!!

Thanks for the feedback. I may have to go to the DL place to modify the restriction, which I would like to avoid. 60+ mile round trip, partly on a congested freeway with a long wait at the govt agency. I may take my chances.

I will need “cheaters” for close up reading. Perhaps new glasses with clear lenses at the top and bifocal cheaters on the bottom.

It's up to the police to prove you don't have corrective lenses. Innocent until proven guilty.

It's actually pretty easy for a cop if he wants to check. Just look at a license plate or sign a ways away and ask the driver to read it. Or simply read one far away and ask the cop if he can read it. No big deal.

Friends who have had cataract surgery have never bothered getting their license corrected until renewal time.

Here, the need for corrective lenses is determined when you take the eye exam when you renew your drivers license.

When I got my first eye done I was given a card to carry in my wallet, I'm guessing when I get my 2nd eye done next week they'll adjust the card to show both eyes.
