After 30+ years of working and making a living with Windows 1-10, i decided i have enough.
Have installed and set up a few W11 but am fed up of throwing hardware at software requirements for no good reason.

99% of the stuff users needs, real needs, are still covered with a Y2K specs machine. XP should be good enough for most. Rest is bullshit.

Very positively surprised as i decided to test the latest Ubuntu distro on a flash drive with my hardware. It was almost too easy.
My PC runs mostly as a browsing and media player unit nowadays.
Haven’t even touched the console yet. Little or no typing requires for barebones setup.

Might be worth a couple of hours of your time. I’ve desisted, got stuck and or bored trying this over the years but now it went too well.

So I did a little searching and came across "Flyby11"

I downloaded it (flyby11) and it says my comp. can download Win11 if I follow this procedure.
It helped me to download the Win11 ISO.
I've not tried to install it yet.

I just ordered a new laptop with Win11, so I'll let you know in the next week or so. My opinion may be a little tainted though, since my aversion to change is stronger than most folks.

Not sure if that's an completely accurate analogy. Would you buy new grips for your pistol? Maybe a red dot? Maybe a laser? Maybe a holster? I get where you're coming from but seldom do you need to pay money to make Win 11 work the way you want it to. It does take a little (and I mean little) work and research. If you're already in the Apple eco-system (iPhone, iPad) I would definitely go Mac. NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT. If you're not in said eco-system I would think long and hard about a Mac. There are plenty of drawbacks to MacOs that are on par with Win-11 flaws.

Has anybody noticed that these threads stay much more civil in the last few years? Much more informative.

Full disclosure, I am a Mac user at home. But Win 11 is a non issue for me at work. Slightly different, and you get used to the differences.

I bought a new computer 2 ½ years ago with Win 10 on it. I did that because I heard nothing positive about Win 11. Just as I got the new computer set up, I got the message to download Win 11. I had two options. Download now, or ask again in 3 days. About an hour later, Win 11 started downloading and I have not used the computer since except to turn it on to keep everything up to date. My Win 7 computer that I built from scratch is still my main computer. In fact. I just bought a new 2TB SSD drive for my Win 7 computer.

Because of this thread, I just installed Windows 11 on my newest/latest computer, a Microsoft Notebook (3, 4 years old, maybe?). Other than illogical placement of icons, start button, etc, it's working fine.

I had installed it on the Notebook back when 11 first came out, but it disabled my speakers. The interwebz confessed that was a common glitch. I uninstalled it and went back to a restore date.

But the sound works fine now. Even my Microsoft Office Pro 2007 is working. Somebody indicated earlier on this thread that could be a problem, but it isn't. At least, on the Notebook.

I'm going to install it on my Dell laptop and see how it works. I'll get back to you on that.

Well...I am now typing on my new Windows 11 laptop. Took a bit to get everything configured the way I want it and get all the files I wanted transferred, but really no big deal. Took a couple clicks and my Win 11 desktop looks exactly like my Win 10 desktop. A couple of quirks, like creating a file shortcut on the desktop, but took all of 30 seconds to figure out. Next challenge is to upgrade the old laptop to Win 11. I'll let you know how that goes. Windows 11 itself is slightly different but not to the point you're relearning how to use it. Piece of cake really.

I am now back on my old laptop after downloading Win 11. Download does take some time so get it going and go have dinner (lunch, breakfast). No issues whatsoever.

ALL of my expensive software is broken.

Drivers and dongles require extensive workarounds.

I've had no issues with Windows 11, either on my work computers or my personal computers. My solitary complaint so far is that the icons in the task bar will sometimes shift as the location icon turns on and off in the system tray. It seems like a small issue and it only happens when I'm using sites that track location, but it never fails that I go to click on an icon to switch applications and it shifts right as I click. Oh well, first world problems.

I used the video above to upgrade a HP840 laptop w/Win10 that "wasnt compatible" with Windows11 - the install went flawlessly and now it is running better than ever. I use a couple of programs to make the desktop look like Win7

I've not done it yet as I've moved and my spare pc is in a storage unit.
I'm at a critical point w/ moving where I can't have my main pc fail me right now but I'm glad you were able to utilize that video.

Current machine had Windows 10 on it. I refuse to switch to Windows 11 on my home machines. I don’t like paying for an operating system only to have it data mine me or my system for information. I also don’t appreciate paying for something in which I’m blessed (sarcasm) with an advertisement ID.

I’ve also been on Teams meetings where someone presenting has had advertisements pop up on their machine.

I don’t like the Copilot and Recall stuff Microsoft is implementing.

Two weeks ago, I removed the Windows 10 nvme drive and installed a new nvme drive. I installed Cachyos (Linux) and have been using it happily. I used a gaming laptop to try out different Linux versions for about the last 6-8 months. I settled on Cachyos after about 4 months of using it on the laptop.
