Backpack suggestions
I want a new backpack for my work junk. I’ve been using a maxpedition sling style for several years but it’s no longer meeting my needs.

I’d like something that opens up completely and allows access to the entrails, but without everything falling out in the process. So pouches.

I don’t want something that is covered in molle and screams I’m a “navy walrus”.

Thus far, I’m not finding one without the other.

Anyone have any ideas?

I went up a 40 liter and added a few molle pouches (one for traffic vest, another for gloves/tools, another for handcuffs, and another for cell phone). It has an area for my tourniquet and Israeli bandage is secured. I took an extra strap attached it to the d rings on shoulder straps. I loop the strap over the head rest, keeps the pack upright with no movement and no issues.

Oh... I forgot to mention Arizona Pack Shack. Small outfit that makes gear for wildland firefighting. I have their day pack. Nothing fancy, priced right and good quality.

I don't know what you want but I like bags and for bag porn, I go to ebags.com.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I'm currently using a Northface Bigshot that's more than 10 years old. The model has changed but still looks solid.

I have the Kifaru Spike camp for sale. A great pack. American made in Colorado. You will be hard pressed for find a better pack and company. It is a perfect size. Not too big or small.

Yep, same here. I have a few Osprey packs and they are very good quality, have lots of organization pockets, and are still light and comfortable. Great for a typical around the town daily use bag.

I use this Momentum 22 as a small day bag, it easily fits everything I need for a day out on the water. I also slide my Sig P290RS + a spare mag into the small rear padded pocket if I can't carry it on me (like when wearing a swimsuit).

If I need to take more stuff I use this Radial 34 (large size). It has a wire frame that helps it keep it's shape. It will also fit an AR pistol with a folding brace and several spare mags if you really wanted to (so it's a pretty big bag).

My TAD Gear Litespeed has traveled with me on trips all over the country and to Central America and has never let me down. Fits tons of stuff for not a large size and is still comfortable. Great size for a day bag and perfect for airline carry-on. Mine is the black color and is faded now from all the time in the sun but it still works great with not a single tear or loose stitch.

It's probably more compatible with your desire to have a pack that opens all the way up and uses lots of smaller organizer pouches. It does have molle on it though and looks more tacticool for sure. The larger Fast Pack EDC would also be a great choice. Both are quite pricey but are of the highest level of quality and workmanship.

For a more serious hunting/hiking pack with a frame I have a Kifaru Express G2 that is bomb proof and will probably outlive me. It's likely overkill for a daily use pack like what you are looking for.

Check out Mountainsmith. I use them when I'm on photo trips to carry all the stuff I'd have to either pack in pockets, or sling around my neck. They are considered a premium pack.

My last firm gave us Ogios that were the first that ever converted me to a backpack. I traveled ~75 nights a year there. This was the best combo of variety of storage and room, while being light and not bulky. I could do an overnighter with just this pack.

In my new role I actually got another of the same style. This link is a slightly newer version I believe, but the layout is mostly the same. Now that I'm not traveling as much it works perfectly for office commute. Available a lot of places, check 'em out.

If it matters to you check into the country of origin of many of those suggested. Nuff said.

Good luck with finding a good quality unit that works well for you.

I inherited a Kenneth Cole Reaction and I have been really happy with it.
Very well thought out with tons of zippered pockets.
Starts at $60 on Amazon. Lots of good reviews there as well.
