mark123Need a new cellphone. Seriously considering jumping ship from iPhone to Pixel.
I’ve been on the iPhone since iPhone 5 came out. Before that I did have an Samsung android phone but it was quirky as heck. Random setting changes, tons of crashes, apps that just didn’t work. The iPhone was a breath of fresh air in its stability. Nowadays, there’s little difference in stability and I’m kind of done with Apple. I’m not saying that Google isn’t also an evil company run by the elitist cabal, but they’re like the enemy you know is your enemy. Apple is the friend that stabs you in the back so he can have your girlfriend and car.
My current phone is an iPhone 11 and it has a cracked screen. Time to replace it.
Regardless, has anyone gone from iPhone to Google Pixel? Are you enjoying it? Hating it? Is it a rough transition or is it rather seamless?
Any advice for protecting privacy and limit google spying? Thanks.

1967GoatI bought a Samsung Galaxy A14 over the summer. Have not had any problems. It cost about $200. Lots of bang for the buck.

PASigI've never seen anyone jump from Apple to Android and be happy about it.
My hardcore-Android-user BIL got married a year ago to a girl who is a big iPhone fan and she got him to switch after he swore he never would while single...love is a funny thing LOL
What is it specifically that you are unhappy about with the iPhone now?

HRKTried it, new subscribers have 30 days to return phones got a nice Samsung Top of the line phone, it was a PIA to have relearn everything, how to find settings, what to change, apps, everything.
Went back to an iPhone, familiarity and ease of use.
Won't ever get the wife to change, the Facetime option is heavily used between her, daughters, grandkids means iPhones forever..

ZSMICHAELLearning new habits are harder once you are older. A lot harder than moving from automatic to manual transmission.

The Pixel 8 compatibility section says “Enjoy music with AirPods® and join FaceTime calls from your new Pixel.”
Personally, I’ve done a handful of FaceTime calls on purpose.

Well, I picked up a Pixel 3a to try the Linux phone thing. While Linux phone is surely not viable (Ubuntu Touch is not ready for use and pretty much stillborn), when i switched it back to android i could basically slim the OS to be mostly degoogled. The old 3a is snappy and smooth.
The iPhone has been great for avoiding viruses but the Android has better scam call blocking and it’s a little more open for customizing which I tried and liked a lot. I was able to cut out the parts that I’ll never use. I guess i just enjoyed it.

Well, I already have to know android. Mom in law has one and i have to fix it all the time. Basically, i have to remove the malware she installs and shut down the 400 apps she has running at any given time.

Well, I was happy when I switched years ago, same with my wife and my son, who is a project engineer for T-Mobile. Now I have dropped the smartphone nonsense a few years ago (I will get a new model flip phone in 2024), but if I was to return to the smartphone world (won't happen), it would be a Samsung again.

BytesI have a Pixel 6A. Excellent battery live, reasonable price, but Android

The wife has an iPhone 14. OK battery life, excellent UI, but twice as much as the Pixel. For my use, texts, occasional browsing, and calling (of course) I like the Pixel.

mark123You guys are correct. It’s going to be a challenge to switch. May not be worth the hassle. Maybe I’ll try to tether my Pixel 3a to the iPhone and just try to use it that way for a while and see if I can get along with it.

Color me skeptical – what’s your evidence of that? My iPhone 12 Pro doesn’t let ANY calls ring that aren’t in my phone book. They’re routed to voicemail. Scam calls are marked as such in “Recents”.

https://calyxos.orgNot as locked down as GrapheneOS, but decent security for an Android OS.

My phone is my business number. I have to allow unknown numbers to ring through. The scam call flag in Recent calls doesn’t seem to work for me.

I tried that and Ubuntu Touch. I’m not sure CalyxOS fully baked.

WarhorseI started Apple with the iPhone 5 also, then a 7, and currently on 14Pro, all have been great for me. I suggest you stay with iPhone.

I've been running Calyx since 2021. Monthly security updates. MicroG and no google apps. I have no complaints.
