It's not easy being me
posted
OK, so my wife just texted & said the independent appliance service company we've used for years told her that our refrigerator is no longer serviceable. We had called to set up an appointment because the freezer works, but the fridge part seems to have stopped cooling.
I discovered the fridge part not as cool as normal when I went to replace the light-bulb in fridge that was out. When replacement did not work either, I checked original bulb, and it works fine in a table lamp.

Given that refrigerator is a "Kenmore", & I'm sure we didn't pay a huge amount for it, but the mfg. date on interior label is 2010.08 (August, 2010, right?).
Kenmore model # 795.75319.900.
Actual mfg. not listed on label.

If this model really is "no longer serviceable", then what brands are recommended?
We don't need a huge, bells & whistles refrigerator, just a standard reliable one.
We have a second refrigerator in the playroom, plus, we are down to two children at home (out of six kids total).

It is likely fixable! My same symptoms repair was simple...defrost heater replacement. $50. 30 minutes actual work. Online help abounds with many diagnoses shown on YouTube.

Seven years old and it's already kaput?

My Kenmore is at least 20 years old now and still going strong. I had to replace the condenser fan motor about seven or eight years ago, but that's it; and I was able to diagnose and fix that myself.

If your fridge is wired so that the door switch controls power to the evaporator fan (as well as the door-light) then I'd like to bet on the door switch. Otherwise some point where both of those devices get power from.

There might be a wiring diagram on the back of the fridge.

Your refrigerator was made by L-G. That likely explains why they don't want to service it. L-G parts can be difficult to obtain and there is little ot no tech support on their stuff.

If the freezer is cooling but the fresh food part is not it is either a) a defrost problem b) a fan problem or c) the air vents between the compartments are plugged with ice or frost.

Open the freezer door. Do you hear a fan running? If so, not the evaporator fan.
Remove the cover at the back, inside the freezer. If the coil is filled with frost, you can defrost it with a hair dryer. Also, look at the vents ot the lower fresh food compartment and make sure they are clear. If it's all frosted up, I can walk you through diagnosing a defrost problem

Good info...

I thought Kenmore brands were mostly Whirlpool. Did they switch to L-G (which I never want to own).

They have been heavily aligned with L-G for both refrigerators and washers/dryers for years now.

But they have used lots of other companies than Whirlpool over the years.
