That was great, I was grinning the whole time. The end, though, "what's your first name?" Poor guy's gonna be working swinging shit shifts for years.
Reminded me of my old man getting pulled over by Texas highway patrol for speeding. He was in his Border Patrol uniform and kinda did the same little awkward shuffle the chief in the video here did, and when that didn't work and it wasn't on bodycam (yeah, I see you peeking, chief), he said "hey, how about a little professional courtesy?" The trooper leaned into the window a little closer and said "Lissen here, I don't smuggle illegal aliens into our country, and you don't speed on my roadways. Let's let that be our professional courtesy, sir." He got his speeding ticket, and that was that, lol.

He should have reminded him that he pays his salary

In Charleston when the late great Reuben Greenburg was the black Jewish police chief and one of the best conseratives ever he gave himself tickets twice over the years. Serious about it and paid the fines not for PR.
He used to skate up the battery for those who have been there.
During Hugo he told the cops to come out briefly during the eye because the crooks would. His instructions were to beat them a little and make them go back to safety as there was no place to put them.

Not exactly the best career move if you ask me, unless if it was unsafe, blatant or in front of the public. If so he deserves a day off.

Well, running a red light is at minimum, 2 of those 3 - unsafe and in front of the public. I would say no one ever intends to run a red light, the make a guess as to whether they can beat the yellow. If you accelerate through it, then it would be blatant, right?

It seems that maybe he didn't know who he was pulling over when he lit him up - but wouldn't he know before exiting his vehicle - I mean, he would run the plates before approaching, right?

Slight thread drift:
I did not know he died. I remember seeing a TV segment about him maybe ten years ago, I kind of forgot about him (but not the roller skates).

It was a tough decission to make for the officer who pulled over the chief. What if their department is doing some sort of “policy enforcement” check on their officers in situations like this? Should you do everything by the book? Or give professional courtesy (no harm, no foul)? Tough call to to make.
When I was interviwed by the Asst. Police Chief of the city where I applied over a decade ago, I was asked situational questions. I remember one of the was “What would you do if you pull over a suspected DUI driver and find out the driver is the wife of the Chief of Police? What if it was the Chief of Police”? I gave him 2 answers. One was by the book answer. The other one was the real answer that was in my mind. I didn’t get the job.
