Last Black Fiday we bought an air fryer to try out. We got the Vortex InstaPot 6 quart as shown in the link below. We got ot for $80 I believe.

https://www.amazon.com/Instant...49956250&sr=8-4&th=1

It's is just the two of us these days and my wife was talking about others at work and how much they liked their air fryers.

I am not much of a cook but I was pleasantly surprised at how well even I could cook some things with it, particualrly meats. It makes woderfully juicy hamburgers in 8 minutes. About the same time for rib eye and New York strip steaks of which I just picked up some more boneless ones from the local store for $7.99 a pound. Boneless cetner cut pork chops cook well in it too. Of course a meat thermometer is a must to get meats how you like them. The grease drips down below for easy cleanup off the non stick coating of the pan bottom. I have been happily surprised that there is no smoke belowing out the exhaust port either so far but I clean after each use when cooking meat and that is no big deal. I have read don't try making bacon in them however, so we stick to the microwave for that. Tons of You Tube videos about cooking withthem and online recipes.

Great for cooking up a quick batch of Tater Tots too. Big Grin

Anyone else like using an air fryer? Whats your favorite things to cook with it? Any tips/tricks using it welcome too.

I am cooking vegetables with my air fryer right now.

I am not that happy with my current one but I am looking to try out another brand/model.

My parents use theirs almost daily.

My dad cooks steaks, pizza, burgers, chops, etc.. in it.

I could not believe my dad went away from grilling porterhouse and tbone steaks to cooking them in the air fryer.

The kids bought me one for my birthday a few years ago. I have tried a bunch of stuff that I didn't care for. Beef being one.

Chicken it does very well. I like crispy chicken skins and man does it ever do that well.

HEB has some pre-seasoned chicken parts that are really good but I have a condition and spices don't set well with me.

Have always liked chicken wings about any way. Recently found wing bits with no seasoning. Cooked plain or with a little salt and pepper and they are great every time. I actually picked some up last night at HEB and plan on having them tonight.

My wife wants one, to me I'd rather be outside on the grill (BGE mostly) shouting "Fire, Fire" like Beavis. Smile

There are tons and tons of videos on youtube on air fryer cooking. I've been searching there for ideas and inspiration. I just scroll around and get ideas.

I am going to try this one tomorrow evening (got to go get some ingredients), I think it looks really good, although I can't, at this time, vouch and recommend this video. I am dropping some pounds and this guy says he is the Air Fryer Diet Chef, so what the heck I'll give it a try.

Anything that is normally baked or deep fried is a good candidate for the air fryer.
I have no experience cooking steaks in on but my eek reflex went off when I read you put a ribeye in there. I'd relegate those to a grill or cast iron. lol
One of my favorites are cod fillets. I mix up a tablespoon or so of softened butter or mayo with dill and some spices to taste and brush the cod with it prior to cooking. About 18 minutes at 350 and it's perfect.

Thanks for all the awesome feedback, much aprreciated. Smile

I did cook wife chicken thighs in it too and she really liked them.

So far the burgers and beef have been great including the ribeyes. Smile, though have not tried cast iron for those. We like our beef on the rare side and it is so easy to check the temp with the air fryer just pulling the pan out for a couple seconds. Going to have to try chicken breast and cod and other fish reciples soon too.

We have been going out to eat less lately due to prices around here just getting so high going out to eat even for more mundane stuff like burgers.

Go with what works for you. I never tried steaks on cast iron and I bet they are great. We don't have the best ventilation in the kitchen so using another device that keeps most the grease inside the device has been a plus for us. My wife also says I am easy to please, so I am probably a poor reviewer of food.

I will certainly try your cod recipe soon and we like cod. Thanks!

Thanks for the Gordon Ramsey ribeye recipe too.

You're welcome. Smile
I've smoked up the kitchen a few times with the cast iron. lol
I now use avocado oil from Costco and it smokes less than most others. In case you're feeling adventurous.

We use ours every day, usually for frozen tator tots or crispy rounds to go with breakfast or lunch. They do the 'brats' from Aldi very well. Any hot dog really. Tyson chicken fingers or most other frozen stuff from Costco goes well too. Except fried cheese. Never works as the cheese just drains out of 'em and winds up under the cooking grate.

It takes like 45-50 minutes but a giant baked potato is pretty damn good in the air fryer. You take a big potato, scrubbed clean and coat and rub it with olive oil (cheap, not EVOO) then sprinkle with kosher or sea salt (large flakes).

That's it. They are fantastic. We usually do two at a time and it works well. Just fix it up with the usual fixins'. Usually we put some BBQ or taco meat or other leftover stuff in there and make a whole meal of them.

We have two, though I don't recall why we had to get the second one. Anyhow, they both work perfectly and we use both quite often, Wings, thighs and drumsticks are great in an Air Fryer, fries and onion rings of course, and veggies come out wonderful.

We don't use if for salmon as I prefer to bake salmon and take it out just before it is done (it keeps cooking a bit from the heat).

Haven't cooked beef yet, but we got a new grill just about the same time we got the first air fryer and so far, never heated up the grill.

We’ve had one for a couple years now. Fries, both sweet and Russet potatoes, chicken strips and nuggets, especially when we have granddaughters in the house. Fish, as in fish and chips. Can’t say I’ve tried much in the way of beef, we usually grill that, but an air fryer is a great thing to have, and we are on our second one.

We picked one up at a yard sale brand new. We've done all kinds of things. Wings, fries, tater tots, chicken nuggets. I really like to use it for pre-made hamburgers. We buy them at Costco. Super easy and quick to throw a couple in for lunch.
