We did a case study on them when I was in college. As a business model They pay better than the prevailing wage ( for high school aged appropriate jobs ie flipping burgers). So they get pick of the litter as it were for applicants. My 2 local in and outs all have well spoken seemingly bright and articulate kids working the registers and drive thru and food prep. And these are kids of all ethnicities. Whereas the fast taco and burger joints across the street all have people who can barely speak the language and routinely foul up my order.

Neither have I. I know where one is, but it's about 8 miles from my house and a direction I seldom travel. Since my idea of a burger is a well-done meat patty with just lettuce and yellow mustard on it, I doubt they make a burger that is enough better to justify going there.

I have never seen one in the Chicago area.

We have Culvers around here and in the Midwest. They must follow the same business model as I have NEVER had bad service at a Culvers, in fact, I'm sometimes suspicious when the workers bend over backwards to be helpful.
There workers remind me of the students that must be in the Math club at school.

Went to In and Out when I was in Vegas last year. Great burgers! Glad I don't have one close to me. I'd gain 50 pounds!

One just opened in New Braunfels, just north of town. The drive through line has been long, but once the novelty wears off, everyone will head back to Whataburger.

I saw a sign on our McDs the other day offer the same pay here in Littleton. I tried In N Out down in AZ last time I was there. It was ok. I honestly didn't get the hype. Huge lines too. The burger was ok and the fries, while fresh and abundant, didn't do much for me. Everything was just average.

I'm told I need to know the secret menu. Animal, blah blah blah. Let me tell you something, a nearly 45 and 77 year old both went into I-N-O and left with the WTF is with the stupid ordering. 1-2-3 that tells you absolutely nothing basically. I realize it's suppose to be simple but then why have hidden shit?

Anyhow, someone mentioned Culvers. While Culvers has grown and I wouldn't consider it premium food, I'd go there over an I-N-O any day of the week. The food is substantially better and the service is second to none in the fast service biz imho. Hell, they bring it to you, ask you what you need, bring extra stuff.

Sorry, I-N-O rant off. Guess I'm just also tired of hearing my buddies trying to convince me this place is so good.

The $11/hr sign in Reno got me thinking about the liberals push for a higher minimum wage. In & Out has lots of young, motivated employees, paid a higher wage than Nevada's $8.25 minimum. What would be the impact on In & Out hiring if the minimum wage was raised to $11.00? Would In & Out have to go to $13.25 to get the quality workers? Would the motivation of new McDonald's employees soar? Certainly they would all raise menu prices but would a higher minimum wage improve the job applicant pool? I think not, but what do i know; I'm just an old fool clinging to his guns and bible.

When I was managing apartments while in law school, I frequented a nearby McDs in San Diego, and got to know a pudgy kid working the counter. I saw him working the grill, then a shift supervisor. I moved away and didn't go there any more. This was mid-70's.

I stopped at a McD's in north San Diego County one day, maybe 10-15 years ago. I saw this guy there, meeting wih some employees, and went over to greet him. He was Regional VP or something like that, running all the stores in SoCal!
