Which Ducati Monster would you get?

stickman428Which Ducati Monster would you get?
I'm thinking it might be time to upgrade my 90° Twin to something a bit more exciting. <BR><BR>Monster 1100 EVO<BR><BR><a href="http://s180.photobucket.com/user/sig226navy/media/A0AF385C-2E7D-49B3-B2F7-BB47FBC27669.jpg.html" target="_blank"><IMG class="inline_image" SRC="http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x72/sig226navy/A0AF385C-2E7D-49B3-B2F7-BB47FBC27669.jpg"> </a><BR><BR>Monster S4R <BR><BR><a href="http://s180.photobucket.com/user/sig226navy/media/69DE184B-0B83-4B66-AA39-03AABEA11D6D.jpg.html" target="_blank"><IMG class="inline_image" SRC="http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x72/sig226navy/69DE184B-0B83-4B66-AA39-03AABEA11D6D.jpg"> </a>Which one would you choose? The water cooled Monster S4R with a 996 superbike engine or the Monster 1100 EVO with the slightly less complicated air/oil cooled Twin?Monster S4RMonster 1100 EVO

TVzombieI'm not familiar with the Evo engine, is it air cooled?
For me the water cooled twin doesn't have the same vibe as the air cooled version.
It's a power trade off for sure. But if you're the type that needs or wants that
140+hp the S4 is the only way to go. But you really shouldn't tap that level of power
On the road. Just my opinion. Take it to the track.
My limited bike experience was with a Ducati 750 Monster then I went from that to
an Aprilia RSV4. That was too much bike for me. The roads around here and my skill level didn't let me use it's potential.
I regret selling the Monster. The Monster was great for the road. Enough power to enjoy without taking it to limits too excessive for the streets. It was about turns and corners not about speed.

Sig2340I'd get the BMW R 1200 GS model Ducati.
I priced a new one. It was almost 25% of the price I paid for my house.

stickman428TVzombie,
Yes the 1100 EVO is air/oil cooled. The S4R has 130 hp 76 ft lb torque to the 1100 EVO's 100 hp & 76 ft lb torque. Not a huge difference between the two engines but the S4R is making close to the power of my first gen R1, which is too much to enjoy legally on the street.
They are my two favorite Ducati Monsters even though they are quite different.

stickman428Sig2340, Those GS bikes are neat but my next BMW is going to be a R Nine T. That probably won't be for a while. I need to get this thing running first.
Then eventually I want to remove everything it doesn't need and make it more like this beautiful machine.

Stick, try testing one of those R Nine T's first. I thought I'd be in the market for one someday but I rode one (R Nine T Scrambler) at a test event this past weekend and it's not for me. The seat was way too square and dug into my thighs where the tank and seat meet. Was actually glad to get off of the thing after 35 minutes. Had some pep though. Ended up riding 4 separate bikes. Started on the S 1000 RR

, next was the K1600 GTL (great handling, smooth ride), then the Scrambler, and finally G 310 R. Funnest bike was the small mill 310. Absolute blast which tops out at about 86 with big ol' me on top

, but so much fun and handles very well.
As to your original question though, not a clue. Looks alone pulls me to the Evo. It has better lines to my eye.
Keep a look out for the dealers in your area offering test ride events. So far I have done 2 and missed the Yamaha event because I was out of state. Offers a pretty good chance to try different things and look closer at the various models offered.

rainman64Stick,
You know I am all over Ducati's, and have ridden both.
Honestly dude, go for the S4R and don't look back.
This can be taken to the bank.....

armedprofI voted for the 1100 EVO because it is what a Monster is supposed to be. The S4R is really a naked superbike. That said, you can't go wrong with either choice. I love the Monster line and they both have the proper swingarm.
Do, Or do not. There is no try. October 21, 2017, 11:36 PM
dking271I have an 1100evo and enjoy the heck out of it since I got the gearing right. The liquid cooled Monster’s are great bikes with tons of power. With that said, I do not recall ever thinking I needed more power while riding. Either choice would be fun bikes.

TVzombieThe air cooled motors with carbon arrow cans was sweetest sound.
I am a staunch helmet wearer on the bike, but the couple of times
I rode around the neighborhood just idling in first was too cool.
A heady mix of the exhaust booms and the Desmo valves is
is mesmerizing.
Even on the days I couldn't ride, it was cool
just sitting in the garage waiting for the next ride.

vthokyI voted S4R, stick.
Hey, for curiosity, how's that XS-Eleven project going?
God bless America. October 22, 2017, 12:00 PM
Sig Sauer KrautI voted the S4R as well. I had a 750 Dark previously and love it. The newest generation of monsters are too plasticky looking for me.
October 22, 2017, 02:34 PM
aespositaI had a 1996 900 supersport. Those 2 valve air cooled Ducati’s are awesome.

yo_eddyS4R. Had one similar to your pic. Loved it. Sound power sexy. if I hadn't developed knee problems that prevented me from riding it for very long I'd still have it. If you get it PM me. I still have a pit bull rear stand for it you could have for shipping cost
