steve495FISA judge slaps FBI concerning four Carter Page applications
IMO, this should be a top news story. The DOJ Office of Inspector General report is slowly gaining some traction in the media, but it's just too much "in the weeds" for many to understand or care to understand. (Low information voters who just hate "bad orange man.")
Here is a short, four page rebuke of the FBI's process while applying for
four FISA applications concerning Carter Page. This started the entire Trump Russia-gate crap. It begins as follows, with my emphasis.
quote:
This order responds to reports that personnel of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) provided false information to the National Security Division (NSD) of the Department of Justice, and withheld material information from NSD which was detrimental to the FBl’s case, in connection with four applications to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) for authority to conduct electronic surveillance of a U.S. citizen named Carter W. Page.1 When FBI personnel mislead NSD in the ways described above, they equally mislead the FISC.
In order to appreciate the seriousness of that misconduct and its implications, it is useful to understand certain procedural and substantive requirements that apply to the government's conduct of electronic surveillance for foreign intelligence purposes.
The shitty part of the letter is that they just want the FBI to tell them what they have implemented so it will not happen again. The court is just "double dog daring them" to do it again. There is no criminal referral, just a rebuke.
If this does not result in criminal charges...
The entire warrant system relies on law enforcement to have legit probable cause. FISA is supposed to be at a higher standard. This is a disgrace.

steve495I just found mention of this letter in the Steele Dossier post. Sorry if it's considered duplicate information. Thinking about it, I think it deserves its own thread.

rburgIt doesn't sound like a slap to me, more like a mild rebuke at best. What the judge should have done is refer them to the state bar assn, with a recommendation they be disbarred. Then prohibit anyone associated in the process from testifying or participating in any way before that court again. The "slap" is just reminding the swamp that they should play better. Or at least cover their tracks in high profile cases.

chellim1Too little too late. Nunes was just talking about this on the Martha McCallum show.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

ChuckWallMark Levin says someone petitioned the court in 2017 noting some of the problems. She took her sweet time and is only on the bandwagon now because denials are no longer "operative".
She was OK with the perjured application, that's my take.

220-9erI don't see how the court looks very good from this either.
They seemed to rubber stamp anything the FBI asked for and that's hardly judicial oversight of this secret process they were appointed to perform.
Maybe they need to explain why they made the decisions they did with no real evidence presented.

nighthawkJail time for those that abused the process, then dissolve this court since they can not be trusted with this program. Absolute power, corrupts absolutely.

HK AgThis Judge can go jump off a cliff, she should have strung up some FBI agents, but she only asks them to write on the chalk board 100 times.
