I know this is old now... but I bought my latest computer from a fellow member here a few years ago. Mac laptop and it has some kind of lit skinny screen across the top of the key board that I have never been able or at least taken the trouble to figure out... just now I glanced down and saw something strange on it...

Just can't quite figure out why I need an image of the web site I'm on above my 6 and 7 keys....

I believe it was called the Touch Bar, soft keys that can be changed programmatically to perform whatever function. One function that was probably pre-programmed was to configure website "favorites" so, by pressing the appropriate section of the bar, you'd navigate to the configured page in your default browser. I'd suspect there is an application installed that allows the user to configure the TouchBar (or maybe it is a panel in System Preferences). Yet another Apple innovation that failed to gain traction with their user base, although the customizable widgets screen in iOS is somewhat of a descendant. Here is an Apple support page on this feature.
