I looked at both Escort and Valentine One today and both now claim that their products can detect and filter out these in-vehicle radar systems.

Is this true, or just marketing hype?

Some of the brands do over state their filtering capabilities in marketing materials. Below are from best filtering to less capable by brands/units. All of the following models will perform more than adequately.

1. Uniden R1 and R3 - newly released, availability will be scarce for another month
2. Uniden DRF 6 & 7 series
3. V1 with the latest firmware combined with their Bluetooth module and their V1 Connect app or one of the following 3rd party apps - YaV1 or V1 Driver. The app needs to be installed on your phone and paired with the V1. For hardware V1.86 the firmware needs to be 3.8952 for latest filtering. For hardware V1.85 it is 3.8945.
4. Radenso Pro SE - great in the city detector, this is a rebrand of a European Genovo brand
5. The latest V1 firmware for either V1.86 or V1.85 as mentioned above but run without the BT and software.

Escort/Bel are missing from this list either from most of their models filtering are not comparable to current competitors (Passport, Redline & Magnums) or their filtering is comparable to the competitor but at a very much higher price-point (Passport 360 and the new IVTs).

Ah ha! That explains the random laser warnings I was getting on my Valentine 1 during a couple of recent road trips. I thought the unit was having issues (as there were zero police around when the laser warnings were sounded).

Thanks for your help guys.

Based on the info here, I contacted Escort and they had me download an app from their site. I connected my Escort to my laptop, launched the program, and it updated the firmware with new code that is supposed to filter out most of the false alarms.

The other vehicle brand is Volvo that will generate false laser alarms if the vehicle is so equipped.
