I love my neighbors. They came to my rescue. Well, to my lawn's rescue
My lawn mower has been at the repair shop for two weeks. Jr DF #4 put the wrong fuel in and it stopped running. We've had a wet Spring so mowing the lawn has been spotty and the grass was already long when the mower puked it's guts. Since then I've been watching the grass get long enough that I was going to rent a mower today. When I approached my driveway yesterday afternoon I was struck at how nice my lawn looked. It was cut and edged and the clippings placed in tubs for Mrs DF to spread in her garden. Who did that? Whom do I thank? It took until now for me to realize who did it. The tubs used to store the grass clippings look suspiciously like the tubs my neighbor is using across the street right now. I went over and verified and they just grinned at me. I love my neighbors! We've done things for each other over the years. We are both intensely self sufficient but occasionally there are complications in life that facilitate the opportunity to serve each other. This time it was my turn to be served. What a relief Big Grin

Are you sure it wasn't RAMIUS who cut your lawn? Big Grin

Well, you obviously had a visit from the lawn cutting fairy. We were lucky enough to get a few visits when I was laid up. Neither one would even take gas money. Some of them looked like people we hardly knew. It was so humbling to see them working, my allergies kicked up a little. YMMV

Nice neighbor! I think it's been raining a ton everywhere!

Tell the truth now, wasn't it really you who put in the wrong fuel? Wink Big Grin

It's nice having good neighbors. Our closest neighbors are very good friends and I'd trust them with anything we own, no questions asked and I'm sure they feel the same about us. You can't put a price on that.

Jim

I was on vacation last week, with no chance to mow before I left. I came back to up to 18" of grass. Wasn't fun, but I got it knocked down the night before last, but spent the whole night last night raking. Sucks to be behind the curve!!

I have some teenage boys that could have done that for you too.

That's funny!

My boys and I are leaving for vacation next Friday. My neighbor told me he would mow for me while we're gone and I graciously accepted.

lol No. Mrs DF did it last year. Then I marked the gas cans with the machine they were meant for. Seems Jr DF #4 cannot read when he is working. Big Grin

Maybe I should hide the non lawnmower gas can.....

I'm curious about the fuel mix-up. What engine do you have and what fuel was put in it by mistake?

Chainsaw mix. It screws up my mower. This time however, just cleaning out the tank and carb didn't resolve the issue. I had to take it in because I don't have time nor patience to horse around with it...

Chainsaw mix is very unlikely to cause a serious problem in a four stroke cycle engine. A four cycle engine may smoke a little with it but it should run the engine fine and not cause any damage other than possibly a little carbon build-up. I think you are going to find you have another problem unrelated to the fuel. Now regular gasoline run in a chainsaw without oil is a different story. That will cause total engine destruction.

Yup to this....

My Dad used to have a nice old Lawn Boy 2 stroke that was his back up mower and used on his rental properties. The thing ran like a champ until he let my idiot former BIL borrow it.

Despite giving him a couple of gallons of premix and tell hime yo only use this gas it took BIL about a week to use the wrong gas and lunch the motor.
