Last week Shirl and Marky were both bed ridden except for runs to the toilet. Diarrhea and vomiting. Both had it about 3 days. I escaped the wrath of that but I got something this week. My head is full of yellow goo that it won't stop making, dry cough and terrible headache. I must have run the neti pot 30 times yesterday, it does help but it just comes back. Bleh. I'm staying in bed.

For those who neti, please be sure NOT to use plain tap water. Always use boiled, purified, or distilled.

There are nasties in tap water that are killed in the stomach that won't be killed in your nose.

I have a little head cold myself. Not too bad, so I shouldn't complain, but I already had a cold this fall!

Something is kicking my butt right now. Got the symptoms others have described but also had crazy, lucid dreams last night.

Yup: Woman dies from brain-eating amoeba after using Neti pot with tap water

In addition to the water we use being boiled, I zap if for a few seconds in the µwave, because the slightly warmed water feels soothing and seems to do a better job of clearing the stuffiness.

Isn't the amoeba thing from people using well water? Our city water is so chlorinated that it's mostly undrinkable.

Had/Have the stomach bug. Thursday night into Friday my night was dry heaving, diarrhea, nasty headache, joint pain, and chills. Felt nauseated all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Now just tired and drained...literally.....water was going through me without changing color.

A couple co-workers have had the stomach bug and a couple have the head cold with sore throat and/or ear ache.

If you have the real deal flu, and if it develops into a chest cough/fever, get your ass to a doctor asap.

Pneumonia resulting from flu kills thousands in the US every year. Do NOT put this off. Flu is deadly.

Costco sells a great sinus rinse kit. Fantastic for anyone prone to sinus infections. Do not use well- water for any sinus rinse. Just pay up for the kit, OR use boiled tap water. You do not want random live amoebae anywhere near your brain tissue.

There's been a few people killed by brain eating amoebas by neti potting with faucet water.

Looks like you gave it to us.
Middle boy puked in the car on the way home from school today. He seems back to normal just tired.
Me on the other hand been up since midnight, can’t stay off the toilet, my head is pounding, am freezing, shaking, body aches, mouth dry as a bone, chest is sore and heavy.

Guess I jinxed myself by posting in here.
Not two minutes later it got serious. Feeling a bit better now.
Hoping it is a puke and rally kind of thing and I am over the mountain.

I had swollen sinuses and all the joy that goes with them the Friday before Christmas. I missed work the next day because the drainage and pressure were so bad I was getting dizzy. Had a sneezing fit that nearly made me black out. I’m still waking up congested but during the day I’m almost back to normal. This has been the longest running plague I’ve endured since a minor bout of pneumonia 25 years ago. I hope yours isn’t the same hell. A double dose of NyQuil for about a week was the only way I could get at least 4 uninterrupted hours of sleep.

ETA: This is my first day in the gym since I got sick and I swear I’ve sweat about 10 gallons already. Good lord...

Yes, I've been sweating like crazy since my fever broke. I'm going to probably need a new pillow. I need to wring it out.

Oh, by the way, real pseudoephedrine actually works. That phenylephrine crap does nothing. I had to give my name, address, phone number and drivers license to buy it but I'm glad I did.
