Once you have an AK driver's license and proof of an AK address, you should be a citizen of Alaska and able to buy what ever firearm you want.

I did this in VA long ago, but again, the law there is 30 days, when used for the purpose of buying a gun. I was moving from DC to Arlington, had already signed my lease, but hadn't actually moved yet. I came across the identical twin Series 70 Commander my dad had, and I had to have it. So I put it on layaway, called my bank and gave them my new address in Arlington. A few days later I went over there to pick up a bank statement, took it to DMV, got my VA DL and went over to the gun store to pick up the gun. It hadn't been nearly 30 days by then, but I had other reasons for becoming a VA resident as soon as I could. and the gun store couldn't have cared less.

Interested in the outcome. How long are you going to be in Alaska? I had the sense from previous threads that this was a temporary move. I didn't make a purchase but was looking at guns while visiting Indiana a couple of years ago. When I asked shop about wait I was told that it would be the normal wait time of residents.

You think that’s bad, I am a Full time RVer, my base State is SD I have had a SD D/L, and my vehicles are licensed in SD for 4 yrs and I have fulfilled the requirements of being a SD resident. But because I have no permanent physical address I can not purchase a gun. I can own, carry but not purchase. I qualify for LEOSA but can not purchase. Someone can buy a gun using their ID address and move the next day. Now I think that’s FUBAR that I can’t purchase! ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Are you using a PO Box for your DL??? $20 a month to the UPS store should solve this issue as you get a physical address and not a PO Box. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I have a mail forwarding service with a physical address, and a PMB on my license. I could change that service to the RV Resort I am a member of and stay during the Summer in Rapid City. I attempted to buy a gun from GarandGuy when checking with a local FFL in Rapid City, He looked at my license and said that He could not transfer it to me with that address the ATF has all those addresses on file and will not allow a purchase with tha physical address. I am then mentioned the RV Resort He said again he could not transfer the gun. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

That would make Alaska more restrictive than California. State ID and utility bill. As othets have said, there is no federal requirement

But every State can and does have a residency requirement. And it can vary. Where I live its both a physical presence, DL, registering your vehicles and paying local excise tax, paying State taxes, etc. I'm pretty sure the local FFL doesn't actually really follow all that if they see a valid dl and address, but that's the statue. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

When I moved to NH in 1980, I got my DL at the DMV in Concord and then drove directly from there to Riley's and bought a BHP. I think the license was still warm from the laminator ![]() Harshest Dream, Reality

Like I said every State can be different. I love Riley's. But NH is a bit like all State's now. Here's the list... A title application prepared by a Town or City Clerk or Tax Collector (must not be marked “Non Resident”) • Valid NH Vehicle Registration Certificate (Boat Registration is not acceptable) • Lease, rental agreement or deed with property address (properly signed by both parties) • Property Tax (real estate) bill for the current year at the address provided • Direct verification by a parent or guardian (if parent or guardian is not present, verification must benotarized) FWIW> “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

[sarcasm]Oh wow, total nonsense about the law being spread around in a gunshop? I'm shocked that would ever occur.[/sarcasm] You got the real answer from 95flhr. ___________________________________________ "He was never hindered by any dogma, except the Constitution." - Ty Ross speaking of his grandfather General Barry Goldwater "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want." - William Tecumseh Sherman
