Looks like I'm going to be getting surgery for trigger finger. It has been getting gradually worse over the last 10 years, so it's time to filet my hand. Anyone get this surgery? How did it work out for you? Any advice? Thanks God Bless and Protect the Once and Future President, Donald John Trump.

Had it done about 18 months ago. Outpatient, local anesthesia. Worst part was being aware of all the roto-routing 'pressure', even though they tented my head. Most important part is to do the post op exercises, therapy, etc. No pain or anything, now. Just a minor scar in one of my life lines. What's wrong with the trigger finger ? It's the 2nd most important extremity you got. Do the therapy after, use those lil cartoon band aids, dont point it at people cuz it's not nice...

The VA did the surgery one on each hand at the same time. Efficient. It also has worked. My fingers don't straighten out as flat as the others but that seems to be getting better. Not a real problem. Scars took around 2 weeks to heal. I used Tegaderm bandages after a few days to get rid of the ton of cotton under gauze wraps. My palms were tender in the wounded area. Just had to be careful about slapping things. Sometimes my fingers feel "thick" but no pain since. Had the injections, just had one yesterday for a new finger. The shots for the previous two lasted the 6 months the VA said they would. he VA also said just do the surgery now and I suppose they were right. If yours hurts anything as mine did, you'll be better off. a year ago I developed 2 with 1 in the L index and the R middle finger. Now it's the L ring finger. ************* MAGA

I had one done a few years back. After recovery, it's been solid. Do your exercises early and often.

Got mine scheduled for this Friday@ 8:30am. Right hand middle finger. Been messing with it for at least 6 months now. Had a friend who had shots and it didn't last long either. My biggest problem is arthritus in the knuckle. I can't get a tight grip and when I do the finger locks up. I'll know more in a couple weeks after it heals up. I had both carpel tunnel & trigger finger release surgery on my right hand done at the same time. This was about 4 years ago. At the time, I worked a very physical & dirty job (on a horse farm). My middle finger use to not bend at all, quite a bit, on a regular, daily basis. I could tell both my hands would get slightly swollen. My wedding ring would get really tight. I also have allergies. The past 2 & a half years I work a much less physical job & I am inside without any pet dander. I had immediate relief of the carpel tunnel issues, no more numbness of my hand/arm. Immediate relief of my trigger finger. You can see the tiny scar from the trigger finger surgery if you look at the palm of my hand. The carpel tunnel surgery scar is pretty much undetectable. 4 years later, still no issues with carpel tunnel, but from time to time my finger will still "catch"/not bend. It is usually when using fine motor skills like painting my fingernails or reaching my finger in the cash drawer to get a penny out. It is very random, maybe twice in a week, then no issues for several months. Recovery went well. The doctor had me take 8 weeks off work because of the nature of my job. I had total care of 12 horses, including daily cleaning of their water buckets, bathing them, & riding. I guess in a cleaner environment, the surgeon usually has people go back to work after 6 weeks off. Main thing he was adamant about during the healing process was after the few days of just ice, he had me alternate ice & heat for several months. I can feel super thickened skin over the scar area. My trigger finger had never really hurt, but it was a very odd feeling & I'd have to use my other hand to bend the finger down. It usually doesn't get better on it's own. I just hope it doesn't get as bad as it was ever again. I had a friend that had the surgery a long time ago & he said it was the best thing he ever did. Very easy & no reocurrence.

Rather common surgery. Can’t say I’ve seen any negative outcomes except for folks with other things going on in the hand (CTS, DeQuervain’s, etc.). Just make sure the ortho doing it is a hand specialist and you should be GTG. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Nope. Wish they could do the same procedure for the arthritis in my little finger.
