I recommend accommodating IOLs if you can afford it. Even if you had to sell your violin.

That's what my wife and I both did. Simple distant vision correction (totally covered by MediCare for us). For the first time in my life (closing in on 90), I was able to pass the vision test for both flying and driving without glasses. I do need glasses for sharp vision at six feet or closer, and definitely for reading and desk work, but that's not a big deal; I had been wearing glasses since I was five or so. I can now do without them for most activities.
