What in the Sam Hill is going on here?
So I just get a letter from the IRS stating my 2nd Economic Impact Payment was issued by direct deposit and I should see it within 7 days.
The letter is marked March 1, 2021.
It is in no way a multiple of $1,400.

This new stimulus has not even been signed by the President. So what the heck is this money I am now supposed to be getting in 7 days even before the new law was put in place.

Then I am to be getting $1,400 more per family member in the next coming months and $250 a month per kid starting in June for a year????

Don’t get me wrong on the surface getting the extra money is pleasant in and of it self but sadly the strings attached to it financially and economically for the country are not going to be good.

Did you not get the $600 per family member last December?

That was the second stimulus. This $1400 one is the third.

I did not realize there were 2 payments. Apparently we did not.

I got the same letter just a few days ago, despite receiving the $600 payment months ago. I think they're just really behind with mailing out the notices.

I just got the letter today about the 2nd stimulus we got in December. It just sounds like it's confirming we got the $2400 ($600 x 4 as of 2019 tax return) I actually just did my 2020 taxes and claimed the first $500 and the second $600 stimulus payments for my daughter born in 2020.

This. Same thing happened to us...we got the payment months ago and last week we get a letter telling us that we're going to get it. Typical federal govt SNAFU.

The idea of a monthly payment child tax credit stinks. And this is coming from a guy with 4 kids. I deal with a large segment of the population who literally only have kids to leverage the social services that come with them. The kids live in squalor, with drug addicted parents, different male and female adults in and out of the residence all the time, fighting, sexual stuff, you name it. They're also the subject of nasty contentious custody battles between thie parents...not because the parents care about the kids, but rather so that the parents can have access to the free money that comes with them. And these people just keep having more and more kids, bringing them into this horrific, disgusting situation because it means more free money.

Giving them more money isn't going to help...it's only going to raise the incentive for them to have more kids, and make the problem worse. Most of these people can't be trusted to raise a dog, much less a child. And $250/month isn't going to raise anybody out of poverty, even if they actually tried to use it to do that. In rrality, it's going to be used to further fuel their drug habit or put an 80" tv in their trailer while the kids sleep on the floor. Mark my words...in 3 years we will have more kids living in poverty than we do now....and the Democrats will still be trying to blame conservatives for it.

I have done volunteer work with a non profit that included, at times, counseling people receiving financial assistance. On the whole, my experience is that many (most?) who receive assistance don't have the desire to be financially independent. And one case involved a woman who would get pregnant, with whoever was available, to have another child, in order to qualify for more $$.

But the govt's goal is not really to help such, rather to make them more dependent on the gov't.

Sadly, that's the truth. And they're using our (and our children's) tax dollars to do it. Mad

So far I've gotten nothing about the 2nd check, not a letter or a deposit. I had just about written it off until I see some of you are still getting letters and maybe the money. Guess I'll have to be patient a little longer.

Did you file taxes in 2019? You should be getting a stimulus based off that if you were under the specified AGI.

If you never received it, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return and it comes as a refund.

The current child tax credit is $2,000 per child under 17 for single parents or heads of household earning less than $200,000 or married couples making less than $400,000 annually

The relief legislation expands the child tax credit to $3,000 annually per child aged 6-17 and to $3,600 for kids under 6 for single parents earning less than $75,000 annually, $112,500 for head of households, and $150,000 for married couples.

The legislation’s enhanced child tax credit breaks the mold by directing the IRS to distribute periodic payments amounting to half the tax credit to low- and middle-income families this year.

If the Treasury Department decides to disburse those payments monthly, it would provide a guaranteed income for families in the form of $300 monthly checks per child under 6 and $250 monthly checks per child between 6 and 17 from July to December.

July to December 6 mos 6*250 = 1500 which is half of 3000

(Parents who qualify would be able to collect the other half of the child tax credit when they file their taxes in 2021.)

A local TV station posted this Associated Press article n their news site.

BALTIMORE (AP) — To pay out his coronavirus relief package, President Joe Biden must spend an average of $3.7 billion every day for the rest of this year. That’s $43,000 every second of every day until midnight chimes on 2022.

For the amount of time that readers took to reach this sentence, Biden needs to disburse nearly $800,000 to stay on track.
