...but, sometimes, you've got to kill the sons o' bitches, and usually, it's when they don't give you any other choice.

Can't you forgive them and still kill them?

For the common good?

Christ forgives those who ask for forgiveness and change their ways.

Forgive? No problem. Just let the government carry out justice.

I lost my ability to forgive malice a long time ago.

Mistakes are a given, I know the difference.

Malice? Never.

What would Charlie do?

If you want to carry on his work, I imagine we continue to seek peace and dialogue.

I don't think yet, that this is any time for fantasy fulfillment.

A Turning Point has happened. Let it progress.

Contrary to popular belief among christian religions, I don't think forgiveness is a command in the non-negotiable sense, and many misinterpret the concept purposely or ignorantly, greatly oversimplifying the subject, and mentally destroy themselves in the process. Many force themselves to forgive when they're not ready, willing, or equipped to do so, thinking it's a do or die command, up to including ending up in hell themselves for not doing so. All for horrible crimes committed against them or their loved ones. It seems churches who teach that mess and shove it down their parishioners' throats are more like cults than beneficial religions. Unhealthy dogma kills.

Forgiveness is reserved for the repentant.

It's also part of the healing process.
Charlie's Wife deserves her moment and say.

I think her forgiveness pissed off our enemies even more.

Let them gnash their teeth. They'll keep exposing themselves.

Everyone else can forgive the rabid animals but I won’t. I’m not Christ-like. I’m a flawed creature and I want brutal retribution.

This is why I brought up what I did last week about Christians taking ownership of the Kirk assassination. The advocacy for forgiveness and turning the other cheek is admirable, but the leftists would be happy to kill ALL of us, regardless of our spiritual beliefs, and it’s exactly because we aren’t leftists and nothing more. Christians don’t own this one, and they surely don’t get to tell the rest of us how we need to process it and respond. “Charlie wouldn’t” isn’t the point, here, and I say that with all the respect I have for the man, and the love of what he accomplished.

An individual can forgive a person for an act, but it does not absolve the perpetrator from judgement.
I think you have to forgive in order to move on with your life in a positive manner.

I read earlier and wish I could give credit to the author, but I don't recall the source.

Paraphrased went something like this...

The victim can forgive in order too move on with life and have better mental health. However, society (Government) has the obligation to enforce justice and punishment.

Well said. Forgiveness implies guilt.

Then you all aren't Christians. Retribution is the Lord's.
And if you think you can do retribution better,

Trump got a second term. It's been less than one year and the pendulum is still swinging.

I'm not a Christian and I don't seek anyone's approval for my position on this or most other matters.

I wonder if you even know what I'm talking about when I started this thread.

My relationship with the Almighty is my own.

For those who think Christians are not required to forgive, read the Lord’s Prayer, along with assorted other verses.

It does not mean that we are not to support the justice system - Christ himself had no issue with a thief being crucified, even when he promised him salvation.

It simply means we are not to hate or seek vengeance.

The civil justice system is about the protection of society. It cannot be anything more.

It's not in The Lair, so I'm not sure.

ETA: Christian or Not Christian, it's a struggle.
One group shows up regularly as a bunch of sinners trying to be better, going to church. Otherwise I have the same "scorch earth" feelings. It's, I'm trying to do better.
