I just purchased a SigForum silver coin and I was curious as to when these were available to members. Can anyone share some information on the history of these? Thanks

They had a group buy for these several years ago (5 or 6) that folks pre ordered them. I bought several and gave them to buddies. I also did a Karma a few years ago here.

Where did you find the coin at?

I can't remember when the first challenge coin occurred as the system pruned it, but I had it when lived in Canada 2014 to 2016:
I met member Rightwire in a bar in Calgary and I had forgotten mine in my briefcase clearing security my last trip.
I have a picture of it in front of the statue of David in a museum in Florence, Italy
There are 3 varieties of Sigforum challenge coins in existence:
0.999 Silver
Copper
Painted Metal

The first challenge coins (copper and silver) were from 2015. I dug up my old order, and it shows May of 2015.

I can’t believe it has been ten years! I still have all the copper and silver ones I got. I gave away one to a member who missed out on the purchase. After I posted this, I had to go make sure I knew where they were. Such a good design and yes, they are date stamped 2015.

I wish I'd bought more at the time. Both silver and copper.

When we did the copper and silver ones, we put a date and "mint mark (A)" to make these as much like real currency as possible. A value wasn't ever assigned because we felt them "priceless." I keep saying "we" because it was a joint effort. I played but a small role in each of the efforts.

Congratulations on your find.
I bought a couple when first offered then few a couple of years later, when a member slod some of his.
I think I have 3 left. I also have a few of the later painted metal ones.

My silver ones were taken from my low rent residence by doper neighbors. I still have the copper ones. I intended to post a WTB ad in the future to replace the silver and, I didn't even know of the painted coins. And, I fully intend to own a Spartan ring as funds allow.

I have Silver and Copper. I take the Silver when I travel overseas and post a picture here. I remember there was a thread before where you post where your Sigforum coin has been. I can't remember the thread title.

Nobody is actually carrying a silver or copper challenge coin uncased correct?

I got a copper coin from a member years ago. Usually in mu pocket when I travel, and on rides on the motorcycle

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The one I carry is no longer in a case, I dropped it and broke the case.
Without the case, the coin has worn very well, not tarnished.

I have two copper coins, used to carry one with me at all times, but I lost it. Put the other in a safe drawer, still in its plastic case, then a few months later found the lost one under a couch. Now, it's in the drawer as well.
Is it time for another challenge coin?

I’m looking forward to receiving my silver coin. I would also love to be able to buy a copper coin if anyone has an extra to spare.

The reason I ask is because I knew a man who carried a half dollar in his pocket for roughly 30 years. It was hard to tell that it was a coin. It looked like it went through a rock tumbler.
