Just had to clear mine, drain line was clogged, this year by schmutz, last year, a frog blocked the exit.

I hook up the shop vac outside to the pipe and let it drain it, also have used a garden hose with sprayer to force water and gunk through.

My warning is the switch you're having installed interrupt the cycle and start warming up the house.

I’ll take a warm house over soaked carpet and having to rip out and redo drywall.
Luckily I caught early this time but with the location where it is in the basement it could be a week plus before I realized it was leaking.

I get that, lucky my air handler is in the garage, so when it is clogged up It just gets the floor wet...

Someone here put out something on a device that looks for moisture around a water tank, imagine it would do the same for AC...

This is what I got for my water heater, though it's designed to detect a leak from the main water supply, not the drain line. But I'm sure it can be adjusted to work however you like to detect water. I did NOT get the Wifi version, that sends alerts to your phone...

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Every A/C should have a float switch on it that shuts off the unit if the drain pan isn't draining.
