Wonder if the gas companies want to have their "pros" re-light pilots for some kind of liability reasons? God bless America.

Nice wood pile. You cut it yourself? Our pile is about 2X that one, but we heat virtually exclusively with wood, all harvested from our own lot around the house. We have a pretty decent supply of wood too. Over the last couple of years, it has been gleaned from a couple of large oaks that died and finally broke and fell out in the field where they had to be removed for farming to continue. No living trees harmed. ... stirred anti-clockwise.

We were in Aspen once. Drove through after hiking a nearby 14'er. We were building our offgrid, passive solar house then. I couldn't help notice all the very large homes facing North with floor to ceiling windows, some down in holes. Thinking if these homes ever lost their heat source.... big mess. No doubt there's unattended 2nd homes there, good deal for the local contractors, repairing damage from frozen pipes.

Our heat in Wisconsin was out for a couple of days when it was 20 below. I used the slab wood I had delivered to keep us warm. It was uncomfortable but not life threatening. That winter we had a frost level nine feet deep. The pipes in the basement froze but did not burst. We dripped the water all Winter as advised. This message has been edited. So this is the part where they get to warm their homes with the windmills?

Considering Pitkin, along with Eagle and Summit counties saw a dramatic rise in full-time vacation home occupancy with some areas seeing a 15,000 person increase, some of these homeowners are getting a rude awakening to the realities of living in the mountains during Winter.
