Amazing video capture. A young grizzly bear takes down a young bison in Yellowstone, not too far from Old Faithful.

Did it eat any of it? I couldn't be sure from the video.

Didn't look like it, but the bear could have returned later to chow down. If not, then some other predator / scavenger would certainly benefit from the bear's oversight.
Maybe it went to find its mother. "Hey Ma! Look what I caught!"

I am surprised that tourists did not seem to be out of their cars for a closer look. Were they in the cars or was that just a parking area??
Thanks for posting. More exciting then black bears in an Iowa beanfield.

That's generally what grizzly bears do, kill it then come back later to eat it. Which is why they tell you to cover you neck/head and play dead. (black bears don't do that, that's why you have to fight back with a black bear)
Have to wonder if it was still there later or washed down stream.

No surprise there, one on one a Brown/Griz bear can take down most anything. In the arctic I've seen musk ox circle up around their young to fend off a brown bear. They did it successfully, the bear went away hungry and bruised.

Where did you hear nonsense like that? This coming from a forest ranger in grizzly country who had a young man killed and eaten on my district.

Once they kill ya, you won't be upset if they don't eat ya.
If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.

I believe what he meant is that a Brown bear will kill you for cause, running across his kill, getting between a sow and her offspring, or just because he's having a bad fur day.
That's not to say he won't munch on you once you're dead.
A black bear will actually stalk you as a food source.

Vanq, it would help if you used the quotation button correctly so that my response and your's do not run together.
maybe just post your own response next time.

Never realized it was a habit of mine, repeated often enough to get old. I’ll try to be more careful
ETA:
“A recent study in the Journal of Wildlife Management documented 59 fatal black bear attacks, resulting in 63 human deaths, in the United States and Canada from 1900 through 2009.”
69 deaths from black bears, in all of North America in 110 years. Tell you what, I’ll be more careful if you will. It strikes me that I’m not the one with my panties in a wad. Something else, this was my fukkin’ post. Now see, I was all contrite, but you didn’t respond, so I got to thinking about this thread. 69 deaths in a 110 years?!? Go shit in someone else’s threadThis message has been edited. Last edited by: TMats,
