I have had a 2014 Ram 1500 Crew Cab(hemi) that I bought new in December, 2014. I have been very pleased with it. It has had a few recalls here and there, and it did need a water pump and a lower ball joint about a month ago at 58K, but other than that, no real issues, and I love the ride.

I do believe the 4th Gen Ram is the best looking truck on the road as well.

I thought they used Chicken Lickn product trucks and shit green Pontiac Aztec's....

No, they actually spend money on those. Where would they find one if not by going to someone they know?

They only order trucks for the lot that have the 5'7" bed. I guess most buyers think the 6'4" bed is too long with a Crew Cab.

Yes, I had to special order my '14 Crew Cab with the 6'4" bed. Dennis Dillon in Nampa ID stocks quite a few Ram crew cabs with the longer bed.

I really, really, really like the new split tailgate on the Dodge. I buy a lot of feed, usually 15-20 bags at 50 lbs each. It would be so much handier to swing the tailgate out of the way, than to throw the bags into the bed over the regular tailgate.

My 1969 Mercury Marquis station wagon had a tailgate that swung to the side. It worked great for many years. It's nice to see Dodge implement the same kind of thing.

Big Grin I'm that guy when it comes to SUVs these days.

I don't claim to know much about pickups, so I gauge them by a very simple metric - given a choice, what do the drug smugglers on the Mexican border steal to run a load across the river and evade capture on dark and quiet nights?

Dodge Ram, every single time.

My understanding is that the Ford Super Duty trucks are the most coveted (I.e. stolen) trucks in Texas..

Yes it is.

Easily.

My 2010 1500 Hemi been trouble free for 184k miles. Pretty much just brakes.

....And the new generation is even better.

Engine. Transmission. Interior. Ride. Room. Reliability.

Nothing to say concerning pickups, but as far as brand, my newest Chevy van for work pails in contrast to past models!!

To add, our Dodge Challenger has been flawless for the last 40K and has needed nothing other than oil changes.

Having had a 19 Big Horn crew cab with the Hemi, I will give my input.

When we bought it we expected new generation issues but nothing like we expected. The brakes always squealed from day one, we had this loud engine noise that would only pop up sporadically (dealer could never replicate), constant electric issues with navi and radio (dealer could never replicate). Our first long trip we took, the radio/navi went to full volume and we could not turn it down. Dealer could not replicate this and said it is possible the radio got overheated!! That led to a 12 hour trip with the wife with no radio, Sirius, etc. I also believe it had several recalls pending when we turned it in and I also got a warning email from Ram, advising me there was another issue with the truck and to drive it to the dealer directly. This was after we got rid of it so it made me feel even better about getting rid of it.

I will say that it was one of the most comfortable vehicles to travel in and got decent mileage, I just could not trust it as a traveling vehicle.

Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

The dash and interior struck me immediately as more evolved and mature. Cool little features, nice materials and execution. Quiet, great ride. Just freaking nice. I haven't been impressed with a truck for a long time. And I wanted to be for decades. Especially with a domestic.

The problem (not just with FCA) is that after the bailouts, they were forced to scramble for new parts suppliers. Their former suppliers mostly bankrupted by their defaults and interruption of business. Some of the components provided by new suppliers have sucked and experience higher failure rates. So there are quite a few items out there that are very tough to get. Like months all the way to indeterminate time frames.
This produces some pretty P.O.'d new vehicle customers. Getting FCA people to talk about (or even acknowledge this issue) is next to impossible. There really is no telling how long it will take to achieve a pre bailout equalibrium. Likely a decade or more. They ignore this like they might a bat sh*t crazy uncle living in the attic. Even at the dealer level too for the most part. But not all. They are mostly apoplectic about fading the heat this creates with customers, and FCA refers all complaints back to the dealer network. It's not happening to everyone, but yeah. It's like a pain lotto. Imagine your new truck, down for months waiting for an alternator? Driving a rental while making payments. Sheesh.

Ford, being the only one not to take the bailout, kept their original suppliers and have none of these new concerns. Pretty much just the old ones.

So I love those trucks, but take on a big payment and insurance for one? Nope. I know you pay your money and take your chances. But this feels like one shade better odds than a fairgrounds midway game to me.

Your experience may vary, but I personally won't take the chance.

Are you talking about supply interuptions going back to 2008/2009 bailout. If thats the case they are stumbling badly if they still haven't secured new reliable vendors for parts.

Or are you talking about this virus debacle and bailout and/or business failures.

Reading whodat's story and watching that youtube video are a bit concerning. I have a Dodge dealer very close to my house but it would be a pain if it spent more time there than in my driveway. Maybe the 2020s will have the kinks worked out?

Still not getting a Tundra. That interior is just as bad as the Silverado.

I was surprised at the perceived quality of the 2020 Ram 1500 I test drive, but I was really not a fan of the center screen in the package I tested.

I preferred the screen/ button layout of the F150 much better. Personally opinion I know, but it really was a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, I thought the 'big' screen option looked like a giant cell phone embedded in the dash and probably pretty dangerous for a great many of the distracted driving public. I prefer the standard size display as well.

I have a 2014 Crew Cab 4x4 with the 8HP70 Transmission, love this truck. Currently has a little over 121k on it and has been trouble free, tires and general maintenance.

That said, there is/was a known issue with the 5.7 V8 referred to as Hemi Tick. It's caused by the MDS which results in a lifter/lifters losing lubrication and can eventually lead to a very costly repair. I found out about it when my truck began ticking for a few seconds on start up at around 70k, decided to Google it and found that's when I found out about the issue.

I have since started driving my truck in manual mode, just put the transmission in 8th Gear and it acts as a normal automatic but manual mode disables the MDS. The truck still ticks on startup but hasn't gotten any worse and the fuel mileage difference with the MDS disabled isn't very much at all, I believe it was about .3 MPG when doing manual real world calculations.

I've always thought that both Chevrolet and Dodge use cheaper components in building their cars/trucks. While they may look nice, ride nice, in 37 months or 36,001 miles, their components begin proving the concept of programmed obsolescence. Window motors fail, electronic components get buggy, suspension components fail, etc. I've been mostly a Ford, Honda, Mazda owner and have not experienced these types of repairs.

GM vehicle interiors always seem a little plasticky and cheap to me compared to almost every other maker.
