These days, the only way not to get hacked is to not be on the web.

So what does that mean? People's credit card info and whatnot stolen?

Not directly. NordVPN doesn't store any info on their servers. They just provide a service to obscure the location and identity of VPN users accessing the web through their servers.

But this does mean that the hackers potentially could have had the ability to watch anything that NordVPN users did during their time connected to the compromised server. So if they had been transmitting sensitive information during that time, like personal info or bank account numbers, the hackers could potentially have snagged it along the way as is went through the server. Similar to wiretapping a phone line.

However, if you weren't a NordVPN user and you weren't connected to that specific server in Finland during the time it was compromised, then you aren't at risk of anything having been stolen in this hack.
