I suspect
SIGnified knew that. As I recall, when the question was asked in the novel, it was in essence a signal that the questioner wasn’t really asking, but rather expressing his opinion about the state of affairs being described.
I had forgotten that, but I might start “asking” that myself.

straightshooter01For anyone who has not read "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand, I highly recommend reading it. Rand wrote it in 1957. Even 20 years ago you would have thought the book to be describing an impossible dystopian society. Read it now and you might say how the hell did she know 65 years ago that this is where we would be.

sigfreundI first read
Atlas Shrugged on the recommendation of a man who was the closest I ever had to a mentor. “Life changing” is overused and usually far from being a fact, but reading that book truly did change many of my beliefs and attitudes.

Well, you know that I'm a "literalist" and don't always pick up on satire.

SIGnifiedAnd Rand left Russia during the 1917 revolution iirc … She knew very well what could happen to any society that embraces communism.
She described it so detailed and articulately in Atlas Shrugged. First read I was 14. Second time I was 19 at CU Boulder, poli-sci … lmao …
Good catch Sf; you grokked accurately.

This is the only book that have I put my foot down and all but demanded that my two kids read it. They are out of the house and I can't enforce the demand but I keep trying. The fact that it is so long a read doesn't help my cause, with the kids instant gratification short attention spans these days.

Why would there need be any of those when he has only been placed on administrative leave while they review his cases?
