Specifically, those of us who have 401K, social security plus a retirement income.

Wife (boss and tax preparer) asked me, And I have no clue. I have not been involved with our taxes for more than 20 years. She does it all and now is anxious that our taxes will actually go up with all those historic deductions that apparently have been removed.

I told here it was probably too soon to get a substantive answer, but she insists.

Have no idea where to start looking and the actual tax bill is probably several 1000 pages.

Thanks to any/all who can get me out of this!

If President Trump signs the bill into law this year (which will apparently only happen if the legislators get the Continuing Resolution done to avoid hugely unpopular massive automatic cuts to entitlement programs) then it will affect your 2018 taxes which your lovely bride will file a year After this coming April. Given the legislature’s track record of being (un)able to get their stuff in one sack anyway, and the odds that the DemonRats will do anything they can to obstruct, there is a fair chance the President won’t sign it until next year, in which case it will first affect your 2019 taxes which the boss will file in 2020. I want to know everything about everything right now too, but there is still time to adjust...

Do you itemize now or take the standard deduction?
Unless you are in a very high income category, your taxes will likely be unaffected or go down.

The standard deduction will be doubled to make up for (for most people) the deductions they have removed. CNN, of all places, has a quick easy calculator that will give you a rough idea of where you will be after the changes.
