I haven’t, but we tend to hit local places and get to know the folks there. Mistakes do happen every once in a great while, but every time the server is quick to apologize and fix it. One thing that I used to notice which always bothered me and I have *not* seen in quite a while (thankfully) is blaming the kitchen. It doesn’t matter whether you took the order wrong or the cook misread what you wrote, just fix it. What I have seen over the last few years on the infrequent errors is “I’m sorry, let me fix that.” or words to that effect. Perfect! Thank you.

For the last 5 years we've out on Monday evening. I don't even have to ask for my favorite waitress. Her name is Julie and she's great. So I tip well. Sometimes really well. My drink is never empty and the food is how I ordered it. Yesterday was my wife's 49th anniversary, so of course we went to the same place. Every year they win the best steak in N Ky. But I almost never go if my waitress isn't working. So last night it was kind of a crap shoot. We got a new girl that I've never seen before. She was real nervous because I must look like a prick. She did a good job and got a good tip. It seems like word is out. I don't travel a whole lot. I do go to the same places when I do. Unhappy ammo seeker

{Off topic} Ok Dick, I know it's none of my business, but how can it be your wife's 49th anniversary and not also your 49th anniversary? Feel free to tell me to fuck off and go to bed. When a thing is funny, search it carefully for a hidden truth. - George Bernard Shaw

We do call it whole paycheck, but you can find healthy food, which when on the road isn't always easy to do. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." FBLM LGB!

Local operations are best here. Rarely have a bad meal with them. The national chains are hit or miss. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

It helps if there's a lot of other restaurants around. I live next to Carytown . If a place is doing something seriously wrong, it won't survive the competition for very long. When a thing is funny, search it carefully for a hidden truth. - George Bernard Shaw

Yeah but what about the guys with a rash that sneezes all over the salad buffet? Or the weird lady with dirty hands that touches all the spoons? I hate buffets. No thanks. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

All we have in Jerkwater is local places, unless you’re counting McDonalds, Sonic, and Penny’s imitation diner. Every place in town has the same issue: employees who don’t give a shit. The cafe where the old goats have had breakfast at 6am every day for the past 15 years has only two reliable employees. One waitress, and a guy who shows up at 5am to start cooking bacon, potatoes, and making biscuits before going to his regular job. The rest of the “employees” there may or may not show up. And Magoo was forced to change his hours of operation to open at 7am not too long ago to accommodate the lazy ones. Now he can barely manage to open at 7 most days. Two days this week Magoo’s has had to close down entirely because one of the two good employees couldn’t make it and nobody cared enough to take up the slack. 25 years ago there were several locally owned cafes open at 6am where a guy could get breakfast. They were all busy. Now there aren’t any. The food service “workers” won’t get up to go to work that early. Working people eat at home or go to the convenience store and buy a lousy premade breakfast taco out of the hot cabinet.

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli. |
. That’s not a very nice thing to say about servers and bartenders. Dining out is big business around here. We have men and women who are professional bar tenders. It’s a full-time job and they make very good money. Chefs make big money. The same with servers but some aren’t full-time. Some are trying to supplement a day job. Some are working their way through school. Some are single moms. To call them dregs is out of line.

YES! I recently had a manager ARGUE with me when he served me the wrong meal. They ended up comping me, but I don't know what I ordered? I'm eating out less and less.

I find the best are local mom and pop places run by non Americans. We have great Thai,Greek,Mexican and a Chinese restaurant owned and operated by Vietnamese in our area that are all a notch above most places in terms of service and quality of food. ****************************************************************************** Never shoot a large caliber man with a small caliber bullet . . .

I look for the nearest Panera when I travel nowadays. I like their sandwiches and it's better than eating McDonald's or other fast food places.

come and take it |
I eat out quite bit and am amazed lately fast this market has grown. I have a local favorite Thai place and there can be 10 delivery drivers come thru the door while I eat dinner. I went to Jersey Mike's for a sub the other day and the had 4 different delivery service logos posted on their front door. I have a few SIGs.

It's not just the quality of service. Even a perfect dinner can (and often is) ruined by screaming, unruly kids. Great food and service can be quickly offset by a kid kicking the back of your booth. _______________________________________ NRA Life Member Member Isaac Walton League I wouldn't let anyone do to me what I've done to myself

Yes, but just as soon as they’re making $15/hour all those problems and issues will go away. Everyone knows that more money equals quality. Icarus flew too close to the sun, but at least he flew.
