Going on a road trip that will take me through Memphis for a night. I’m just looking for a dog friendly hotel, not looking for any night life. Any “no go” areas?

Sadly. I won’t be armed.

Try some place just outside of Memphis.

Salt Lake City, perhaps.

Traveling from where to where? If going south towards Jackson MS or Birmingham stay in either Southaven or Olive Branch (both just across MS border.
Do not stay anywhere near the airport or in West Memphis for any reason whatsoever. Downtown hotels are fine but pricey.
And FWIW not everyone here is a savage.

Continue east of Memphis; Germantown at a minimum. Jackson, TN would be even better.

Did just this once, exactly as prescribed. Think I stayed up near Jackson.

We stayed South of Memphis - another state. Room taxes were cheaper.

Stay in the Southaven or Olive Branch, MS areas if you're headed anywhere nearby. While there, eat at Memphis BBQ Company in Horn Lake, just off the Goodman Rd exit on I-55. Horn Lake is the town West of I-55 off that exit, don't stay there. Stay on the East side of I-55 in Southaven, several quality chain hotels right there off I-55.

Germantown is fine. Collierville (out east, past Germantown) is also fine. Downtown is fine for hotel quality but panhandlers are abundant at times. Avoid Lamar Avenue, North Memphis, West Memphis, and streets named after states.

Memphis has some incredible eats, email one of us locals and we can bird dog you a place where your odds of not being shot are over 50%.

The Fisherville / Eads area, out by I-269 is probably the safest area. East of Memphis.

Start with Beale Street, draw a radius of 25 miles around the city.

I just stayed at Marriot Residence Inn in Germantown on Tennessee side. Clean, no problems, no frills. We had two big dogs with us (they charge $50 per dog!).....

But as someone here said, you can't get lost in Memphis....if it's in your rearview you are going in the right direction!

Germantown or Olive Branch as previously mentioned are the only two areas I would personally consider staying.
