there's a LOT of words that would be more effective in clarifying the performance requirements

I KNEW there was a good reason for a judge to have that gavel. It just needs to be somewhat bigger.

Well that isn't true. I bet I know more bailiffs than you. Some are men, some are women. Most are not out of shape. For the most part, I would not care to get in a fight with any of them.

Some bailiffs will surprise you. Once when I was a police officer in Amarillo, TX, a prisoner had been transported from prison to Amarillo for trial. Somewhere along the way he had obtained a homemake knife. During the trial, prisoner jumps up and heads toward the Judge stating something like "you are my judge and executioner". The bailiff, who was about 90 years old, quick as a snake, whips out his old .38 revolver and plugs the guy several times before he can reach the judge. The prisoner lived but was in a world of hurt. Our Chief of Police made the scene and seriously tells me "we need to take up a collection and buy him (bailiff) a .41 magnum. At that time our duty weapon was the S&W model 58 .41 magnum revolver.

I got that impression.

Impression that I got too. However in heat of the incident, innocents sometimes get cuffed.

Yep. It's sadly true that some agencies can see their Court Services/Court Security/Bailiff/etc. division as a safe place to dump underperforming officers that can't hack it on the streets or any other "more important" assignments. (Sometimes also similar with other specialized roles like School Resource Officers, which some agencies also view as being "less important than" other assignments.)

But it's not true across the board. There are plenty of bailiffs and SROs that I would absolutely trust with my life, and there are others that I wouldn't trust at all. But the same can often be said about folks working the street, too.

Yeah, Bull Shannon those bailiffs were not. How embarrassing when the Judge has to come down from his perch to do your job. Not good.

Wow. Ok. They should be all barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen right?

I know of a few female officers that are wizards with a baton and magic w/ knee strikes. In other words they can do the job. If it matters to you I have seen quite a few guys that couldn’t fight their way out of wet toilet paper or sit in the corner shaking like a cat shitting a peach pit.

Wow, that Judge was more hands on than the bailiff. She just walked away after Judge grabbed suspect.

That Judge was so calm and forceful. If I were to add words to this silent video...
Perp...Keep you hands off me!
Judge.. Calm down punk.

Disagree. The moral of that video is don't have bailiff who are not capable of dealing out violence if necessary. There are females out there that you would not even want to piss off. There are males out there that are flaming marshmallows. It isn't about gender, it is about attitude, condition, and training.

The Judge went out the back door when we took down the sovereign who resisted getting hooked up to go spend 10 days in jail.
The judge didn't want to have to be a witness in the guy's next trial

One of the most physically-fit agents I've worked with is a rather small-framed woman. She's also terrifyingly fast and accurate with her handgun and one of the most competent investigators I've met. If you're in her figurative or literal sights, or if she gets her hands on you, you're going down.

I've also seen PT studs who can bench-press an F150 turn absolutely useless in a mild use-of-force.

I know plenty of female officer who are more than capable of taking care of the business, and plenty of men who aren't. So, I try to not broad-brush.

No, I don't think they should be any of those things but I think they should not be allowed in jobs where things come up that require others to save them.

While I realize there are women who might be able to do the job, the majority wouldn't be able to.

There used to be a Deputy in our county that was huge. He passed me in a hallway and appeared to be about 6" taller (I'm 6'1") and a good 300#+. Legend has it that he was seated in court when a gentleman in the row in front of him stood up and became belligerent. The Deputy, still seated and with one hand, "assisted" him returning to his seat.

Man, y'all are so grumpy! Maybe I'm just in a good mood today, but when bailiff 'Lawd! He comin!' came through the door and bounced the brother around like a sumo wrestler, I had a good chuckle. Yakkety Sax was playing in my head for the last half of the video!

It's mainly about willingness to do bodily harm and upper body strength. Some women, very few, have the former, but almost none of them have the latter.

That's why they don't have women competing against men in wrestling matches.

When I was younger, much younger, I had this crazy girl friend who tried to kill me.

She was very willing to to bodily harm. With a knife.
