Moving Through Network

Unbelievable. Fedex or UPS would have had it here next day. So there you have it, gubberment at it's finest.

I had a 500.00 money order "moving through network" in St Louis for 10 days a couple of months ago. Had to file a case with the post master. Suddenly the letter was dislodged and delivered two days later. This was a next day air type of deal.

Sounds like they messed up the shipping label or somethings entered into the system wrong,

I would call vedders and ask them to put tracking on it and check the mailing label...

I occasionally order things from an outfit in Portland. I can drive there (and back) in roughly 12 hours. USPS takes about 4-5 days going through Boise, down to SLC, back up to Billings (450 miles east of me), and then back here. No wonder their shipping costs are so high. Roll Eyes

My father ordered a package for me for my birthday. It was guaranteed delivery 2 days before (Friday)

It was of course delayed a day but tracking indicated it had arrived at the local USPS office at 1am Saturday. At 11am he got a notification that the package was in route to a city 40 miles away instead of being on the truck for delivery. He drove to the local USPS in hopes of getting it, but it had already left the building. He called the USPS office at the new destination and they confirmed they had it but no idea why. Unfortunately they closed at noon and would not guarantee anyone would be there if he made the drive.

I think there was someone here on SF that routinely sent things with a guaranteed overnight service with USPS and he would always get his money back because it took them several days to deliver it.

Seven days ago Amazon shipped a package to me from New Hampshire. It arrived in Pontiac Michigan at a distribution center on the 17th. Pontiac is about fifty miles east from here.

Yesterday the 21st it was sent to a distribution center in Grand Rapids 105 miles west of here. Revised delivery time is today from last Thursday.

Pissed off is the understatement, one piece to complete the job.

Update: Allegedly the package is at a SECOND facility in Grand Rapids for the last twenty four hours. Amazon’s tracking states that I can file for a refund on the 26th. I’m going to make an assumption that the package is somehow damaged and they are trying to decide to return to sender or to ship it to me.

Had a similar situation happen several years back, it took action from the Postmasters in both my local office and the originating office to find it and ship it. It was a irreplaceable item, a piece of the fire pole from the department I was on out west sent by a friend. When the box arrived it looked like it had survived a war, retaped and cardboarded over, the brass pole being a brass pole survived.

So much for the bazillions of dollars that the USPS is spending on their ad campaigns to tell us how great they are and getting better all the time.

clerk probably tossed it in the wrong bin

I mailed 3 Med Flat Rate Boxes from RVA to Reno, Albuquerque and Salt Lake City,
dropped all 3, prepaid labels, in the APC on a Sunday night,

the Reno package went almost straight to Reno,
the Alb went almost straight to Alb,
and the SLC package took a detour to Puerto Rico,

no idea why

For at least the last 3 years my significant other has received checks from a family member every month for a service they share.

This month's check wasn't in the mail box. Informed Delivery showed that it was delivered that day. It's not uncommon that the carrier puts our mail in one of our neighbor's boxes, but after a few days it still didn't show up.

Turns out it was marked as undeliverable and returned to the sender. Sender then peeled the yellow sticker off and placed it back in their mailbox. It finally showed up here 3 days after it was sent the second time.

I can top that, I've had BRP USPS pre paid envelopes, going to a USPS PO Box, I'd say 15 plus years easy.

Several times now I've gotten BRP USPS envelopes returned to me, with the yellow sticker, telling me, they can't deliver to me, the envelope they just delivered, to me....

A couple years back or so I'd bought a Troemner 1g ASTM Class 2 certified calibration weight from an eBay seller--complete with the ISO/IEC certification paper. These things are normally hideously expensive. (I can't find the 1g on their site, but, a 100mg weight currently lists for $151.)

I couldn't believe my luck.

It hit the Detroit Sorting Center, then, from there, went to my area's distribution center, then was scheduled to be sent back to Detroit.

I freaked out. If they lost this thing I was screwed. It's not like they often show up on eBay--particularly not for the $35 I paid for this one.

So I called the USPS facility at which it was located. They agreed to pull it from wherever it was in their facility and hold it for pickup.

*Whew*
