Sigh. The water and icemaker for our 3-year old refrigerator/freezer (Frigidaire) is, just like our two previous ones, having major issues. Our fist unit (came with the house purchase 15 years ago) died entirely. That led to new valves and copper line to unit. Second, much nicer unit worked fine, until it slowly leaked and froze a layer at bottom every week or so. It was 7-8 years old so we replaced. The current/new unit is barely working. Water super slow and icemaker hardly works, only filling like third of the tray. Just dropped bucks on a plumber visit. The water pressure to the unit is excellent. So, the issue is "somewhere" inside...no longer warrantied unit. Suggestions on how to fix on my end? I'm already out $ for plumber visit. I can live without the cool water and ice, but I had no idea they were so high tech and finicky... Thanks.

I know this is a stupid question but have you replaced the filter or tried with a filter bypass? "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Try some YouTube searches. May point you in the right direction. I've replaced the ice maker myself on a couple different fridges. Not too technical with YouTube assistance. It does sound like you might have a supply issue. Have you tried changing the supply line? Baring that find a decent appliance repair person.

I Deal In Lead |
I've had water/ice maker/dispenser refrigerators for the past 16 years. The first frige I replaced simply because it was 18 years old and starting to make funny noises and the second one is going strong. I did have to replace the entire ice maker unit twice in the old fridge but that's simply because we use a lot of ice ourselves and our dogs eat around 3 or 4 pounds of it a day. I've never had a problem with the water.

Thank you Very little |
Sounds like a clogged line, or filter. If you haven't replaced the filter in 7 to 8 years it could be clogged. I'd order on on Amazon and try that first, A) you should change the filter yearly, b) if it doesn't fix it and you keep and repair the fridge, it's still something that should be done.

Thanks. We do change the filter, but it has probably been perhaps a year. Even at the beginning, the cool water flow has always been mediocre at best (yet the flow to the fridge is, I saw today, quite robust). The icemaker was a champ, it will completely fill inside of container from empty in 48 hours, and we'd manually shut it off for several days. Now it is one-tenth of former productivity. We will check out YouTube as well.

Either the copper line has a kink (I had this problem and same issues you have) or the filter is clogged. A Year is a very long time for the amount of ice you say you use.

Run Silent Run Deep |
My ice maker had a timing adjustment pot behind the front panel. The fill solenoid works off a simple time-open...and adjusting that pot raised the fill. To the contrary, your leaking maker was most likely set too high, and overflowed. Mine is a Frigidaire as well... _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! Living my life my way |
When I bought my new fridge I was told to replace the filter every 6 months. Got it marked on my calendar when to change it.

Also consider the supply line freezing and blocking sufficient water flow. I'm 99% sure that is what is affecting our Samsung when ice production falls off.
