However, calling out bad behavior is done by many people, on many topics.

Posting some something as a quote, that is not is dishonest, and I'm free to point that out, just as you're free to make your delusional rants about moderators and power. However, even if adding a "Fixed It For You," after the change post, it's dishonest, but in this case even that wasn't done. It was only presented as "(o)originally posted by . . . ," and that was not true.

If you want to rephrase someone's post great, but doing it so it looks as if you are quoting them is rude, lazy, and dishonest. I can't force you, or anyone else, to stop doing it, but that doesn't mean I can't point it out.

You are correct that my opinion means "jack and s***" to some, but the same is true of you, and wcb6092.

There are many practices I can think of that were common and tacitly accepted here that were later discouraged, if not simply prohibited: commenting about appearances, gratuitously inserting politics into nonpolitical discussions, and name-calling other posters jump to mind. Being common didn’t make them right; in fact, it’s when the objectionable becomes common that it’s often the reason for making a rule or for people to speak up about it.

In the same vein, I agree with the objection to quoting other posts and then modifying them to suit the new poster’s views. By any standard, a quote is supposed to be exactly what the person quoted said, not corrupted into something else, even if the modification is somehow indicated with the strikethrough feature or changing the color or capitalization. That’s why when the quote feature is used, “quote” appears above the selection.

If someone wants to restate what someone else said as his own but modify it to reflect his own opinion, it’s easy enough: Type the new statement in its entirety and post it as one’s own comment. If someone objects to something posted earlier, then say so and don’t change someone else’s post. For example, something like, “It was a NORTHERNER who came into our state to spread her filthy ideas,” would make the poster’s own position unambiguously clear.
