Loaded RoundI think the old man did it for entertainment. As they towed the boat away, he looked at his friend and said " This shit will be comedy gold".
Let's make some martinis.

I was going to quote that sentence from the article as well... yep...
No experience? What could go wrong?
Don't they already know?
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Marinas cost money. They don't have any. I just hope they don't smash that boat into a reef. We need our reefs!

M-11Hope they're going by way of the Suez and Panama Canals. Assuming they could make it that far, those two barnacles would never make a Cape passage.

vinnybassI don't get it. They have no income, no assets, no experience, & apparently no judgment. Just what exactly are they retiring from?

jigray3A reasonably well found boat made by a decent yard capable of blue water passagemaking. There are weaknesses and potential issues to watch out for exacerbated by age, correcting them is not cheap, fast, or easy. These 30+ year old boats sell in $15K range for a reason, unless they have been refitted and upgraded. Not a wise choice for the inexperienced. Here we go again.

stickman428Maybe they learned their lesson and will be better boaters from now on? Nah, I have a feeling we will be talking about them again in the future.

I'm surprised they are waiting a whole week. Last time, they had zero sailing experience and decided to head out to the Caribbean. TXJIM said it: Like giving two chimps a loaded pistol.

Nah, that's 4x what they paid for the boat! They don't have that kind of money, or common sense.
They figure, hey if Forrest Gump can drive a boat through a hurricane with a no legged first mate, how hard can a sailboat be?

It crossed my mind when I posted that.
I suppose I was projecting my own values, like saving my life, supporting myself with work, things like that.
