TC washers use the old school physical agitator and mechanical transmission like all washers used to use for generations up until 10-20 years ago, which is heavier duty, more reliable and long-lived, and does a better job of cleaning (especially on heavily soiled clothes), at the cost of being a little rougher on your clothes and using more water.
The TR washers use a newer style of wash system without a transmission and where the tub itself moves. It's gentler on clothing and more efficient, at the cost of some extra complexity and not being quite as good at thoroughly cleaning clothes.
The DC and DR dryers are functionally the same, just with different cosmetic styling to match their respective washers, and maybe a few other minor differences.
So figure out which washer you want, and then get the matching dryer.
I had a Maytag with mechanical switches. It ran great and lasted 20+ years. But I had to change the switch out once and also had to replace some component (resister?) which required desolder / solder.
I went with the electronic controls on the SQ which replaced the Maytag. Not saying it's more durable just saying in my experience, mechanical fails too. Mechanical is probably cheaper to fix though. But so far as good.

Thanks, that explains a lot.

I still need to get a Kang for the kitchen. Put one in at our old house, 3/4hp IIRC, and it was quieter & more powerful than the builder grade Badger it replaced.
We have the TC. Mrs. BB61 was concerned about getting it because it has a smaller tub. That concern has vanished. She REALLY likes the TC. Clothes are cleaner (smell cleaner) and is substantially faster than our prior HE washing machine. So even though she may have to do 3 loads instead of 2, she still gets things done faster.
We had a thread about a month ago on this subject. A member claimed we SQ owners were, shall we say, devoted to a marque without merit. You may want to search the forum for all this wisdom.

Followed that one when it happened.
Like the WasteKang, Dave Truong, and I'm sure many other SF standards, the SQ has been on our shortlist for a while.
We've had the TC and DC for at least 5years with no issues. My wife uses them and has no complaints, that's a good thing being they were my recommendation.

Yeah, I've had my TC/DC combo for 6 years and they've been excellent. (And if anything were to go wrong they're easy to work on, so I'm not worried.)
The only reason I'd not recommend the TC is if you wear a lot of delicate fabrics or expensive clothing, or if you have a large family since it has a smaller than average capacity. But for 2 people it's great, and even 4 people it's fine if you don't mind doing smaller loads more frequently. Plus the fact that it's faster than many other washers helps offset the smaller load sizes, though the dryer tends to be the bottleneck.

We're 5, us and 3 girls. We don't typically do large loads, other than the occasional bedding loads, which for our King we may have to resort to a laundromat/dry cleaners or splits in to a couple loads.
Looks like the SQ is a little over 1 cu ft smaller than our current Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum.
