Pictures???!!!

Did they have aircraft position lights...or any lights at all???

Any chance they could be involved with the Oil & Gas work in the area or perhaps Wind Turbine farms?

Inquiring minds want to know! Oh, and hope you and the family are doing well! Happy New Years! Cool

There are definitely lit, not exactly trying to hide the fact that they are there. No pics or video personally but the ones I have seen all look the same, black sky with flashing lights. Decent info from 9 News with some video posted:

These aren't hobbyist, store bought drones. Its pretty freaky! I got up last night around 1:00 a.m. and I could see one hovering maybe 2-3 miles away as the crow flies and a second one flying much farther away. I watched for about 15 minutes and finally went to bed. There were multiple sightings last night from people in surrounding towns, Brush (10 mi), New Raymer (25), Jackson Lake (25), Yuma (60), Illif (60), even as far west as Erie (70). Better double up on the tin foil hat for tonight!! Big Grin

We're doing well, thanks for asking! Happy New Year to you & yours.

Sounds to me like a couple of guys with some paramotors and nets could solve this pretty quickly with low risk of damage.

There's a lot of work being done by Amazon for their coming Drone Delivery Service. This might just be R+D for that effort.

Any Amazon Drone worksites in the area?

Amazon and a host of others has denied that they are testing drones in the area. A complete list is above on the 9 News link.

Could be this... could be several possibilities...

...here's the thing that perplexes/ bothers me. This story has been out for more than a week, and it's getting a fair bit of coverage. Whoever the drone operator(s) is, they likely know by now that residents and observers are at at least curious, if not concerned, and that both local law enforcement as well as federal government agency representatives have been contacted about the sightings...and yet they remain silent.

It would stand to reason, and would be a good business or operational plan, for any legitimate unusual drone operation such as this one to first notify at least the local LEA, and if an oversight occurred, to notify LEA and local media after the fact.

When First Responders conduct mass casualty training drills, or when roads are shut down for police escorts of VIP motorcades, or when a LEA conducts live fire shootings to calibrate their Shot Tracker systems, the public is frequently forewarned.

I could understand a private corporation needing to keep proprietary plans or technology secret, but why not at least notify local law enforcement and peeople in the area that you are going to be conducting some unusual R&D flights?

I could envision some federal agency or military/ LEA having a need to test such drone capabilities, but if they need to be kept secret then why not conduct such flights over Restricted Air Space ranges?

^^^ Could be part of marketing. Cause a bunch of confusion and sightings, get in the news for a week or two, then announce they've developed a new new tech and they saw it in testing. Free advertising.

Yeah, that possibility occurred to me as well...along the lines of the introduction of the first Segways in 2001 and all the hype the inventors intentionally injected into them, 'revolutionizing the way people travel' etc...and I recall all the disappointment that followed when the public finally saw the first ones.

I'm not saying your wrong, it could well be that, but if this turns out to be nothing more than a publicity stunt, it seems like a big risk for a company hoping to sell a product or service to take...personally, I prefer to be impressed by a product or service and not the artificial hype surrounding it, and I'm betting many people resent being manipulated by a company just to introduce a product or service.

I'll go along with erj pilot. I read that Verizon was testing 5G networks as drone traffic control.

Either that or aliens.

If people want to play with their small personal drones, that is fine. If someone/organization wants to run 60 - 6' drones at night, I don't give a shit if there are no rules about it, you should inform local law enforcement so they have answers when the public calls about them - very irresponsible. There is a lot of bad that could be implied about what is going on.

I am all for shooting one or more of these down and/or jamming the control frequency to crash them.

Hasn't anyone else flown their drone up to them for a closer look? Since everyone and his brother seems to have one now, you'd think we'd see up close video.

I talked with a guy who tried but these things are fast and he couldn't keep up.

I realize that these drone formations don't necessarily follow roads, but sooner or later I would think they would cross a road or at least an open accessible stretch of farm or ranch land. These drones seem to be reliably appearing in the same areas at the same times each night...if I lived locally I'd be looking to drive as close as I could get to them, get a better look, and maybe some better video.

Hell, these things have to recharge sooner or later, if nothing else I'd be trying to follow them home to their base. If there are that many of these giant drones flying they must need a large hangar or warehouse or tractor trailer to house them in.

A local guy I know said he looked at one with night vision goggles and it looked this:

https://scontent-den4-1.xx.fbc...c04d6abc&oe=5E690396

We had one fly close over the house about an hour ago. Sounded kind of like a small prop plane rather than the "buzz" of a typical drone.

Wow! Good to get a close up visual comparison. That drone is obviously built for extended flight durations at higher speeds.

My guess is there is definitely an alphabet agency involved, or Bloomberg...

If they are flying at night the FAA knows exactly who it is or they are doing it illegally. With no government reaction they clearly know what’s going on. It sounds like bs to me though that 30 six foot drones are flying at the same place at the same time of night and no one is getting crystal clear video.
I think the government is getting people worked up so their proposed drone ID program is easier to get passed. It also wouldn't surprise me if Bezo is greasing the palm of a greasy politician to make clear airspace below 400'AGL for his delivery services.
