TXJIMBucks follow patterns at the time of year they shed. Look for trails that lead to fence crossings and search around these crossings. They will often drop when the buck jumps a fence and lands on the other side.

JWFWalked the deer trails on the back property this afternoon but found no more sheds. The shed I found was in the middle of the yard, he must have kicked it off.
We had a real show this winter, I usually see one or two bucks but this year we had an 11 point, a 10, two 8’s, two 6’s and a forkhorn. Amazing to see them together grazing in the back yard.
Just another day in paradise.

RogueJSKThose make great chew toys for the dogs, if you have access to a bandsaw to cut it into more manageable chunks.

bean357Often times they will drop both close by. Look by tree bases also, as they sometimes bump them off.

BassamaticI have a pile of those behind the barn. My dog roams the woods and makes it his mission in life to bring them back for us to look at.

sourdough44Off to IL in a few days to help with some stand maintenance, always on the lookout for some sheds.
A few years ago I went on a moose antler hunt in the U.P. Of MI. We targeted a logging area where a few moose were hanging out near the time they dropped. Most of the snow was gone, West of Marquette.
We looked a few hours in likely cover, plentiful moose droppings. I actually found one. The guy I was with had a display so I gave it to him, mid-size. He later found another in the area.

1967GoatNice rack. Colorado just banned picking them up until May 1, on public land ($68 fine). I realize your backyard isn't public land. The lefties won't be happy until the fuck everything up.

Remember it is Colorado!! Not much they do there now makes much sense. I spent a very short tour (as in about 6 months) stationed at Ft. Carson. Great area, good people, etc but the libtards have fucked that up now, too.

Why in the world would they do that? The deer certainly has no further need. I don't understand.

1967GoatSorry for the thread hijack.

<snip>
https://cpw.state.co.us/antlershedWhy is this necessary? How does shed collection hurt deer, elk and other wintering wildlife? The purpose of this regulation is to reduce stress on wintering big game animals during the time of year when big game animals such as deer, elk, pronghorn and moose are most vulnerable. Stress can result in decreased body condition, increased mortality and decreased fawn/calf survival. These regulations protect the health of Colorado's big game herds and other wintering wildlife.
Winter can be extremely difficult on wildlife as body weight is down and access to food is very limited. The survival of wildlife relies heavily on keeping as many calories as possible until the green shoots pop up, heralding spring's return.

vinnybassNevada also has a "closed season" January 1st to April 30th in six counties for picking these up. I had no idea until I looked it up about a month ago.
The NDOW site claims it is to lessen pressure on herds at a time of year when they're more vulnerable.
It doesn't address the fact that the same areas are open to any & all other outdoor activities, including hunting coyotes & mountain lions at any time.

We have been inundated with millions of out of state libtards over the past few years and they all just LOVE to go to the fucking mountains every weekend. I assume a lot of these idiots took up shed hunting too and the sheer number of people started being problematic.
