"Parent company L Brands announced in late February that it would shutter 53 Victoria's Secret store locations amid sagging sales, after closing 30 stores in 2018"

I really miss buying from a store instead of on-line. Odds of getting the right product improve greatly when you can put hands on it before the purchase, and avoid having to return-exchange over a week or more to get it right.

It helped that the prices in the Sears Catalog were the same as store prices for the same product, unlike today when on-line sellers charge less, sometimes significantly so.

It boggles the mind that one can now buy a used car on-line and can have it delivered. What could possibly go wrong with that? Eek

Oh how I fondly remember walking the aisles at Blockbuster with my son when he was a toddler looking for movie we could watch. Renting the movie was only a small piece of the experience. Online shopping has improved a great many things, but unfortunately, it's also killed off all of the experience of loading up the kids and going to the store to pick something out, followed by a lunch of dinner out. What was once a very social experience is now totally devoid of any social interactions.

Well the Victoria's Secret by us gets robbed just about daily since they announced they will no.longer prosecute anyone stealing from the store. In fact I felt like a chump actually paying for my wife's perfume for her birthday.

And as brick and mortar stores cut service more and more, it almost drives you to the internet so you dont have to deal with the stupidity and pain in the ass of the sales staff.

There are many struggling shopping malls across the US available at distressed prices. Amazon has been buying a bunch of them. Talk about eating what you kill.

I still remember many years ago doing my Christmas shopping in crowds so thick you could barely move. I don’t miss that aspect even slightly.

Not prosecuting theft has to be hurting them. Not everyone is willing to pay higher costs so that some can steal freely

Keep making Bezos rich. At some point amazon will control everything, then raise their prices to wherever they wish.

It's sad.
When i was a child i used to read lots of comics. Superman was of course one of my favorites. There was one parallel world were everybody was either Superman or Loise Lane and they all looked like made of crystal.
That was my intro to parallel worlds.

I feel like i live in a parallel world to yours. Can't trust the digital currency or online sales because there's too much fraud and no effective legal recourse.

I live with cash, my bad experiences with banks would sound unbelievable to you and having been raised in a culture of rampant inflation i feel the only way to shop is right here and right now.

As I posted in another thread, my invalid sister's account and CC got abused by the building super and the only pra tical recourse is to have him slowly return the doe for fear of going to jail. The paper trail is long but the bank and the card company have not been helpful in any useful way.

In 2001 our country went bankrupt abd banks simply stopped dealing with tge public unless it was for ripping then off once again
Going digital and switching currency for plastic and cellular wallets seems absurd when you know for a fact that if given the opportunity, the banks will simply turn they online services off and go home for a few days, weeks, months.

Certainly not a survivalist or an alarmist, just someone okd enough to have been through it already in this life. Unfortunately.

OMG, some lady did that to me when I was about 22 YO. Then she started feeling the pants to see how tight the fit was.

"since they announced they will no.longer prosecute anyone stealing from the store. "

just why would they ANNOUNCE such a policy???
It can't be a beneficial business model.

About 30 years ago I was in a checkout line, and the pretty woman about my age in line behind me was buying Kitty Litter and Ocean Spray cranberry juice.

My opening line: "I bet your cat is female."

Her response: "How did you know?" (I'm already imagining our first date...)

My follow-up: "I had a cat with a UTI that the Vet suggested I treat by having her drink cranberry juice." (OK, not great, but familiarity works sometimes, right?)

Her evening-killing reply: "It works for women with UTI's as well." (Say "Goodnight, Gracie!")

Still better than shopping on-line! Wink

Here in the Yoop, our once busy mall is circling the drain. Lost Younkers, JC Penney, Radio Shack and MC Sports.
Now an out of state developer has bought it and he has a reputation for making big promises and then bailing out. Shopko, a Yoop institution, went tits up earlier this year.
Our Wal-Mart and Meijers are booming.

I'm not sure these guys are all that smart anyways. Here at the lake we have a Home Depot, Lowes and a Menards all withing three miles of each other. This is NOT a high population area.
