Broadside, it’s an inlet, where a river meets the ocean. Makes for a rough passage. I’m think it may be the Miami river. I can’t remember. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

Haha I’ve been watching Wavy Boats here and there after coming back from boating in Sarasota area. Absolutely insane watching some of the stuff those people go through. I’ve been getting a kick out of The Blue Top Legend. I believe they actually made a t shirt as well for it.

It where Biscayne Bay leads out to the Atlantic. Miami River is South, in the City of Miami. This is Miami-Dade County.

No place to go and all day to get there |
And not a one that I saw was wearing a PFD. I went down the rabbit hole and watched a boat leaving Haulover, a small girl was washed out of the boat by a wave over the bow, no PFD and the boat was unable to turn to retrieve. Some people just have to try to piss off Darwin. Just another day in paradise. NRA Georgia Carry

That’s normal. It’s where a river dumps into the ocean. The city or county has put up giant rocks to create an inlet for boats to get in and out w/o being clobbered by the ocean waves…but at certain times (when the tide comes in) it actually makes it very rough in the inlet’s channel. And yes there are a lot of boats in very close proximity…but that’s how it is. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. sigcrazy7 already partly explained it. They're fighting their way out and in through a rough passage. Thing is: They're all doing it with boats with planing hulls. (Nearly all recreational power boats have planing hulls.) Such hulls do not handle rough water well
Not really. Well, that's not the dangerous part, so much as nobody appears to be wearing a PFD (Personal Floatation Device - aka: "life preserver"). None of us wore them, yesterday, but we were on a 44 ft. boat in calm water that was about 75° F. I like center-console boats. If I ever again own a boat (unlikely), it will almost certainly be a center-console boat. "America is at that awkward stage. Actually, its an interesting aspect to watch in these videos. Some of the deep V 35'+ Midnight Express, SeaVee, Everglades, Contender, NorTech and such center consoles often eat a lot of water entering and exiting Haulover as they attempt to carve through the swells. These little boats with planing hulls on the other hand, just seem to bounce along on top of the swells, pounding the crap out of their occupants. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Yes, until you are off on your timing and stick it into the face (or back) of a wave, and then you are either swamped, stuffed, or pitchpoled and you are swimming. Never suggested it was a perfect or better solution. But the folks who are experienced and can row that throttle at the right times, can make for some memorable entertainment. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. No open water experience like this, but can attest to the difference. My stepmom's dad had a 25' (I think) Cobalt with a 454 in the back. Great boat, but was horribly rough in choppy water on the lake. Her cousin had a tri-hull pontoon that was like riding a cloud by comparison. The Enemy's gate is down.

I am not a boater and have no clue what is actually going on here or why this is so impressive? From my unknowing perspective does not seem like much of a feat? Just seems like throttle down in some choppy water. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Having been in and out of that cut numerous times over the years I can tell you it takes quite a pair of huevos to hammer down in that sort of swells with a 15' boat. It also takes a bit of skill on the throttle to know how to ride those waves without sticking the bow (like Artie noted). I've owned a few boats over time and spent a fair amount of time offshore, and you will not find me attempting anything approaching this level of ballsy. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. I was recently at Haulover and went out in a 32 foot Sea Ray that belongs to a friend. Just inside the inlet is an awesome sandbar to party at. There is oven a floating roach coach that serves hotdogs and such. What makes the inlet so insane is when the tide changes, all of Biscayne Bay goes out through the inlet. Once you navigate under the Collins Ave bridge, the current is unbelievable and there are massive rollers. People constantly get jacked up because (a) they have been partying hard on the sandbar all day, or (b) are not competent captains for the conditions. Haulover will absolutely eat your lunch if you get too cocky.
