Budget is 3-4K. I'm looking at the Superior master series SM-40 size around 3k out the door. Around 1100lbs with their fire protection. Local dealers sell Amsec, Champion, Fort Knox, and Superior. Anything in this budget better than the others? Thanks https://championsafe.com/produ...-home-fire-gun-safe/

One of the smartest things you can do is hire professional movers to get it into place. Then get it delivered under the cover of darkness. So as not to alert all the local thieves. It does cost you a little more, but not as much as a wretched back or crushed foot, Unhappy ammo seeker

" Get it delivered under the cover of darkness .." That's pretty damn funny . I'd love to hear that conversation with delivery guys . Can you rent NVG's ?

Just get an empty refrigerator box and put it over the top of it from lowe's or home depot, nobody even looks twice at someone delivering a "refrigerator"

The situation came from "Bud's Safes". Yeah, that guy. I bought the safe in Dayton, OH at a gun show on Sunday. I was stupid, or more so than usual. The guy had to drive past my house on his way home to Lexington. So trusting him (again stupid on my part) I paid cash $ up front, with him agreeing to deliver later that evening. Sounded good, except the jerk drove right on by, he was tired I guess. And all my buddies I'd called to come over just wasted the time. OK, I burned the phone lines up the next day, they said they were sorry, but couldn't possibly get here for a week at least, and then not after dark. So there his truck with huge trailer sat blocking the state highway with "Bud's" plastered all over it. Just what I wanted, alerting all the thieves from out the highway that I had guns. The guy who finally delivered it said he could get it down the basement steps. He was right, he didn't kill himself. The other safe I bought and brought home myself. In the bed of my pickup with a moving cover over it. Moving stuff after dark is preferred. No one much notices hillbillies moving stuff, theirs or anybody else's. The only satisfaction I got was the driver was an idiot and kind of jack knifed his trailer and bent his bumper and dinged his trailer. So I gave both the safes away to my sons. I don't have a free standing safe these days. Just a little 10x20 concrete room with 6" walls and a safe door on it. I was watching as they poured it and the concrete company guy was really nice and must have stuck two dozen ribar rods down in the mix. Guess I gotta croak here because there's no moving it. Don’t want to step on toes. There’s a Sturdy Safe group buy on another forum. I have no interest or involvement in the group buy or Sturdy Safe. Contact me privately if you want a link. Unless Para says it’s ok to post. Personally I’d be looking at Amsec BF or (preferably) BFII, or Sturdy.

Eons ago, I worked at a gun shop that eventually started selling gun safes...lots of them. So much so that I had to start helping with the delivery. You cannot believe the requests we had to move these safes. Can you move that 1800lbs safe down the basement stair with 2 landings and barely any clearance? Can you put it in my basement through the easement window? Or can you put it up the staircase with several landing over white carpets and wood stairs and you better not leave a single mark or anything. We used all kind of moving carts including one that ran in tank tracks. We also used golf balls, metal rods, metal plates, etc to move safes all over. It was when I was at the bottom of a large safe that almost fell down the stairs on me when I decided I had enough. Champion and superior safes are on the same level. Fort Knox and liberty are also equal and a little more refined than the others. If you want to buy once and not cry, but a National security.

I have 2 safes, medium-ish size, 500 lbs empty or so. Both are in a modern, dry basement. The one is a Browning safe, bought years ago on discount. The 2nd is a https://zanottiarmor.com/. Zanotti safe. That’s one you put together wherever you want it, made in Iowa I think. The Zanotti does cost more per cubic foot, but a nice option for any that want mobility. Once put together it’s as good as any. One person can move & set it up, help is always nice. A safe by itself offers a little fire protection regardless. If one’s house burns to the foundation, bets are off with most. As we know, hardened criminals with time can get into most any safe. I have S & G dial locks on my safes.
