I have a situation where I’d like to mount a camera on the outside of a truck, so that the driver can watch and maintain a consistent distance from a fog line for painting operations. The camera needs to be weatherproof, and I would prefer the screen is a dedicated cab mounted screen, although a phone might also work. I know absolutely nothing about about cameras. Any ideas? I haven’t a clue if Go Pro makes cameras with a wireless screen.

Is this something you are going to be taking on and off the truck or can the camera just stay there?

If it could just stay there I would just get a decent backup camera mount it and buy a small portable monitor for viewing.

Or dependent upon the truck just buy an inexpensive head unit and add a 2nd camera if the truck already has a reverse camera.

If it were me I would likely mount one of these into the passenger side mirror aimed forward catching the forward portion of the truck and fog line.

I would need to be able to switch the camera from side to side unless I can get enough money for separate cameras. Especially when painting a fog line on an interchange ramp, it’s hard for the driver to see the line in relation to the painter. Also, ramps are not a constant radius, they change over their length. The paint sprayer is able to move laterally but if the driver turns too tight, the carriage holding the spray guns has to be wheeled in. It’s possible for the driver to get the line so far under the truck that the paint has to be turned off and re-attempted. This new painter is longer than the old one making seeing the line even harder. If I can find a system that works well, I might have another camera for the painter (usually me) so he doesn’t have to hang out a window all day. It is not easy on the back, and there’s no spring chickens around here.

Here is one that has lines to guide the driver. normally for backing, you just mount it on the front of the vehicle. one camera with easy install, wide view, guide lines and can be triggered by the turn signal.
