I am at a loss for words. I’ve enjoyed his music since the early 70’s; he will be missed. RIP Jimmy

He's now just wasting away; I hope he did find that lost shaker of salt before he died. Rest In Peace.

His songs did provide a small get away to a different world.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

My second post in this thread...

Been listening to Barometer Soup all day as I was working in the yard.

In my opinion, he wrote the songs on this album as a look back on his life. It is my favorite of his "newer" studio albums.

Now to dig out all of the CD's and finally convert them to FLAC.

I had given up on Jimmy (stopped buying albums and going to concerts) when he started allowing his politics to infect his shows. I regret now not being able to overlook this and not catching just one more show.

I got a late start as a Parrothead. Went to my first concert in 1995 at the age of 23 at Buckeye Lake. Over the next 20 years I attended dozens. Several in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago, Miami, etc. Many good times and never a bad one. Still have the grass skirt, coconut bra, straw hat, and beer bong from my last concert somewhere in the garage Smile.

He was an entertainer for sure.

Tonight's dinner will include Cheeseburgers, French fries, Rum, and A Pirate Looks at 40 at sunset on the porch (my absolute favorite song of his).

Gonna miss ya Jimmy. Thanks for all of the good times. Your music will continue to bring a smile to my face.

We will all miss him. I saw him many times, and the show was always fun.

RIP Pirate.

Big Buffett fan. Never been much of a concert guy and only went to one of his concerts. Portland OR, Sept 2002.

Rode my motorcycle down from Seattle area with my 13 yo son. Pre-concert party and the concert itself was a sight to see for a 13 year old. Pretty sure that was the first time he saw naked boobs live and in person.

Great memories of that road trip.

In the late 70's my parents would take us to Key West for two weeks away from the cold in Ann Arbor and Cincinnati.

The very first time I heard Margartiville, I immediately thought of Key West. It was not until the mid 80's that I learned that was the inspiration for the song.

His m music resinated with me.

So many times "changes in attitudes, changed my attitude".

He will be missed, but his music will live with me forever.

I’m not exactly a fan of Paul McCartney but this tribute was a touching story that probably few ever heard of.

“ It seems that so many wonderful people are leaving this world, and now Jimmy Buffett is one of them. I’ve known Jimmy for some time and found him to be one of the kindest and most generous people.

I remember once on holiday when I had forgotten to bring my guitar and was itching to play. He said he would get me one of his, but I said, ‘I’m left-handed’. So, Jimmy had his roadie restring one of his guitars which he loaned me for the duration of the holiday. He then followed this act of generosity by giving me my own beautiful left-handed guitar that had been made by one of his guitar-making pals. It’s a beautiful instrument, and every time I play it now it’ll remind me of what a great man Jimmy was.

He had a most amazing lust for life and a beautiful sense of humour. When we swapped tales about the past his were so exotic and lush and involved sailing trips and surfing and so many exciting stories that it was hard for me to keep up with him.

Right up to the last minute his eyes still twinkled with a humour that said, ‘I love this world and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it’.

So many of us will miss Jimmy and his tremendous personality. His love for us all, and for mankind as a whole.

Last, but not least, is his songwriting and vocal ability. If someone made an interesting remark he repeated it in his gorgeous Louisiana drawl and said, ‘That’s a good idea for a song’. Most times it didn’t take too long for that song to appear. I was very happy to have played on one of his latest songs called ‘My Gummy Just Kicked In’. We had a real fun session and he played me some of his new songs. One, in particular, I loved was the song, ‘Bubbles Up’. And I told him that not only was the song great but the vocal was probably the best I’ve heard him sing ever. He turned a diving phrase that is used to train people underwater into a metaphor for life when you’re confused and don’t know where you are just follow the bubbles - they’ll take you up to the surface and straighten you out right away.

So long, Jim. You are a very special man and friend and it was a great privilege to get to know you and love you. Bubbles up, my friend.

Love, Paul”

My wife and I recently spent 3 days on Key West. Jimmy's name came up a number of times when talking with locals. Gotta love his style of music.

Bubbles up was co-written with a close friend of mine, Will Kimbrough (Emmylou Harris’s lead guitar player currently. But his work with Songwriter's with soldiers brings tears to my eyes) . Jimmy has recorded at least a dozen of Will’s or Will co-written songs with Jimmy, Mac McAnally or others. Nobody from Nowhere is Will and Tommy Womack. Last Christmas, Jimmy was bringing everyone, including Will to his studio on St Barts. At the last minute it got changed to a studio in Nashville. Health related? No idea. It does fall in time line with his hospitalizations, cancelled shows and such over the last 8 months. He’s been battling skin cancer for 4-5yrs evidently

Reports of his business acumen are probably deserved. Number of years ago some acquaintances from back home purchased a small cafe and boutique shop near the yacht club on a lake near Lake Michigan. Nice set up, tourist clip joint, etc. They called it Margaritaville. It is a ways up the coast line from Chicago. Few months later they got a certified letter from a Chicago law firm. Turns out Buffet owned/trademarked the name.

Margaritaville. It’s a household name. They’ve got more money than Davy Crockett.

And a Sigma Pi pledge at Auburn. His pledge class picture is on the wall at the frat house and he’s in it.

New album coming soon. I bet it "sells" well. His songs were an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I am sure he is enjoying a Cheeseburger in Paradise.

RIP Jimmy, thank you making my life better.
