We were waiting on a flight at ORD Friday when I noticed a fellow my age wearing a VietNam hat. When I got closer, I noticed "Medal of Honor recipient" on his hat. I got to shake his hand and thanked him. I told him I had been there also. His name is Ken Stumpf and you can read about his heroics here: http://www.cacti35th.org/regim...r/stumpfsrevenge.htm

What an honor to have the opportunity to meet such a man. I too have had that experience and it is awesome and humbling. One of the memorable experiences of my Navy days was a change of command. There we were in choker whites, white gloves, swords and medals, going through the receiving line at the O Club, shaking hands with a similarly attired Vice Admiral who had a MOH around his neck. Few visuals are more impressive. BTW, for you young bucks.... if you ever have the opportunity to go somewhere in that get up, whites, swords, medals, it'll be worth your while to take a date. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Hmmmmm. Didn't work for me. Of course, married and three kids and a couple of grandkids may have had some bearing on that... Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

And to the OP, I envy you that honor. My apologies for the hijack. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Serenity now! |
What an honor to meet a true hero. Reading the accompanying story, I realized that this gentleman served in the same outfit, at the same time, as my uncle, who was killed a month before this incident. Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ

Must have been the sword then. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way.
