Simply type in search for Russian Navy Base or Russian Submarine Base and have a look around. Google Maps “We’re in a situation where we have put together, and you guys did it for our administration…President Obama’s administration before this. We have put together, I think, the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics,” Pres. I never knew they were blurred out. I have spent hours over the past years looking at Soviet bases (my favorite is Ramenskoye Air Base; it's like the Rusky Edwards AFB - they had a space shuttle parked there last time I looked). Fear God and Dread Nought Admiral of the Fleet Sir Jacky Fisher

Hadn’t thought in terms of point being made, but think Jimbo nailed it, “High tech virtue signaling....”. I found it interesting in that a small slice of what had been hidden by Google is now visible to the common man. Those that have an interest in seeing the Russian bases now have the opportunity. Guess the larger point is High Tech., Mass Media, Politicians, all hide things for control and ability to shape opinion. Why were these areas blurred in the first place. “We’re in a situation where we have put together, and you guys did it for our administration…President Obama’s administration before this. Whoopie... I searched "Russian Navy Base" and selected the closest hit to Ukraine. The image was ten years old. Collecting dust.

In fact the only blurred navy bases in Google Maps are French.

Yeah, what has changed is that the current conflict has made lots of new-ish unblurred overhead imagery not subject to national Russian security legislation available, mostly from international commercial satellite operators reacting to demand. Google is merely working with what they can get, as always.

I noticed that. A year or two ago, I tried looking for the WWII German submarine pens at Brest, France that supposedly are still there - the imagery HEAVILY pixelated (there was no meaningful detail of the pens visible at any zoom level). I just checked now; it's still the same. That was the only place, except for I think the White House, that was so heavily obscurred. I looked up Ramenskoye and Murmansk yesterday, and they are just as blurry as they used to be. "Blurry" meaning I could still see ships and aircraft, and still identify most of the aircraft there (SU-27, MiG-29, Badger bombers, the Buran space shuttle, etc at Ramenskoye, and Kilo subs at the naval base), but there was a limit to which I could zoom in before the images became pixelated. It was no more blurry than anywhere else I might look in Google Maps. Fear God and Dread Nought Admiral of the Fleet Sir Jacky Fisher

IIRC Google's satellite images come from SPOT, which is a commercial satellite imagery company located in France. So the French Government likely has some say in the images it sells. I've seen plenty of unpixelated images of US bases. But French and, interestingly, Israeli bases are blurred. Never seen a Russian base blurred.
